took the trx out in the dark for the first time 2 weeks ago, and found to my suprise I couldnt see anything on any dial, theres no back light at all working

whats likely to be up with it? blown bulbs? blown fuse? something else?

Unusual that all the illumination bulbs would have blown, suspect a connection problem.

thats what I was thinking, theres probs 3 bulbs, be weird that they would all be dead, might check the fuses with a multimeter, but then again, I would suprised if the dash lights had their own fuse........

Nope, definately no individual fuse for the illumination bulbs, there are all linked to the lighting circuitry.

I'll have to take a proper look at it, do the bulbs pop out of the back of the dash fairly easily?

Well, not having EVER looked at the back of a TRX instrument pod (I bought mine streetfightered and without the stock clocks) I`m guessing that just like most Yamaha`s they`ll be capless bulbs that are in rubber cups, simply a push fit into the clocks assembly.

if all your illunination ..front and rear have ceased function..you might find that the horn has gone as well...under the seat and in the fuse box..you will find the fuse has blown as they will be in the common curcuit..but then you need to find why it has blown..eg..have you done any of your own wireing lately..the TRX wireing system is pretty reliable..

Found this when I got the TRXie back from the smash repairs.
But my case is that it's just the bottom half of the speedo dial that isn't illuminated.
Must be just a single bulb.
I can put up with it until the next service, but I thinking of treating the TRXie to a KOSO or ACEWELL dash once she hits 100,000km

Sharing a little light on the subject giddit light on subject, Mince is correct, they are mounted in a rubber cap and are dead easy to get out, From memory they are an unusual style of bulb. You will need to remove the fairing, but I guess you already knew that.

I will pop out and check my horn and fuses, the only thing I have done is remove the alarm that came with the bike, it was a cheapo one with no instructions and I didn't like it

just been out and checked the horn, its working ok

hopefully its just blown bulbs, can anyone confirm how many bulbs there are?
I would guess 2 or 3, depends on wether there is a bulb in the small temp gauge

Pssst, go look in the downloads section of the forum at the Yamaha manual.

gone through, the owners hand book, service manual and parts manual and its not clearly explained anywhere, I think its the meter light and it says theres 4 of them

Got mine out now doing the same. Confirmed 4 of capless as Mince has posted above. 2 in speedo 2 in tacho, and 1 of those reflects into the temp gauge. I have used 3 watt bulbs.
