getting the harpoons off...

HI.

got the chance of a set of Scorpion end cans, complete with link pipes off a Hornet 900.... my mate had them fitted, but as since sold the bike, these exhausts he offered me for £50 for the pair including the link pipes...

now i have in the past tried to remove my harpoons from the link pipes without much success, bear in mind they have been on the bike for almost 10 years now.... no problem removing them from the downpipes, but the other joint is real hard to remove... looks like these scorpions will fit on my link pipes with not too much trouble... any advice, the scorpion pipes are slightly shorter, and have the removable baffle on as well.. do you think its worth having them??

dont want to destroy the harpoons, but would be nice to have a choice, especially as they have removable baffles for dodgy hot copper sundays...

You could get those harpoon cans off with a blow torch and plumbers freeze spary I`m guessing. Heat up the harpoons sleeves, get them red, then spray the link pipes and use a rubber mallet to hammer them off. Obviously once cooled the change in the colour of the stainless harpoons sleves would need polishing out.
As for the other cans, well at that price it would be rude to turn them down!

Mince,

yeah that did cross my mind today, I have some freeze spray in the shed too..... just need to get some gas for me plumbers torch...May have a lend of a heat gun, as dont want to get too much heat in to the end cans and spud up the carbon fibre...

let you know how i get on... also was suggested by a friend to pour diesel down the flange.. and washing up liquid gives a good indication of heat..

have left the link pipes joined to the down pipes for the moment as i have some thing to hold them with, going tomorrow to pick up the Scorpions, did Say to my mate if i cant use them i will Ebay them for him...

let you know what they look like tomorrow, and get some pics up... gotta be worth a punt at £50 its a no loser really... if I cant get the end cans on, i ebays them for £50 starting price they gotta be worth more than that..... £500 to buy new !!!!!!!
