Afternoon all

Is there much aggro involved in pulling out the trx engine?? I have got to change the block over for a spare that I bought due to overheating problems so I reckon it will be easier to pull the engine out rather than trying to work around the forks/front wheel. Ive also been contemplating painting the engine black and seeing as the new block is black its kinda pushing me to do that at the same time.


Any tips and hints would be appreciated as ever.

Its not a hard job. Easiest way I've found is to put the engine on blocks and to lift the frame off the engine.

You need to strip off the forks/wheel and swingarm/wheel first, plus the suspension components and shock, plus the bodywork and tank and ideally the downpipes too.

Its easier to paint the engine using this method, if you first pu the engine on bolcks using a bar through the front engine bellypan mounts and a couple of axle stands.

The other way is to lower the engine down, but you need a jack etc to do this, and still need to strip the bodywork/tank. Plus its harder to line it up again when putting it back in. Also, you'll need to have the bike raised up to start with so there's clearance to lower the engine down and out to the side.

At the end of the day, its all only nuts and bolts. Just depends how much time and skill you have.

...and take pleanty of photos, especially of where the pipes and wires connect and go to.

Will finish the poxy living room re-construction within the next few weeks and then I have explained to the boss that the rest of the year belongs to the trx!!
