Can someone help me regarding my bike please?

I got it a couple of months ago, bought it off ebay and I love it
The previous owner was a member on here, and I think he got it from another member who did the modifications.

The front end is off a ducati of some sort, the calipers are gold Brembo 4 pots. It has a round headlight fitted and the bars are wider, also the rear wheel is wider
with a blue spot caliper. I think the wheel is off a FZR ?

I need to replace the pads, front and rear and also I want to purchase a new chain and sprockets but dont know what I should be buying.

Oooo, I think that was maybe a Ducati monster or 900 SS front end. I seem to vaguely remember the bike but cannot remember the owner / member.
Have you looked in `member rides`to see if you can spot it? (use the search facility too, like `Ducati forks` etc)
As for the four pot Brembo`s, they`ll be easy to source pads for, especially if you take one out and visit a bike shop who`ll have a brake pad ctalogue where they can match them up from the shape of the base plates.
Can you not contact the previous owner to ascertain who he was, he must know who he bought the bike off too, all in all just a little homework required.

Hi Mincehead, the previous owner was Markracing 10, I have sorted the pads out now, but the problem is with the chain and sprockets, according to my reasearch the rear wheel is of an xjr1200 which has a 532 chain?

XJR1200 is 532.

Seems the standard rear sprocket is a 38 tooth so one down on the stock TRX rear. The chain is 110 link same as the TRX as the XJR12 runs a 17 tooth front sprocket.
Obviously that quick search turned up the useful details but shop around for chains and sprockets they vary a great deal in price and quality.

The forks are 750 SS Ducati.
Here`s another site giving the dimensions of the rear sprocket, pcd (pitched circle diameter) of the six mounting holes, the diameter of those mounting holes and the hole through the centre to clear the hub. all useful information.
It seems that 530 conversions are common place on the XJR`s too, this company doesn`t list the kit in 532.

If you look at the chain, it usually says on the links what the pitch is i.e 525 etc.
Also, usually says stamped on the rear sprocket how many teeth it has.
Failing that, count the links ans count the teeth.

Just checked my bike, I have a 16t front, 39t rear with a 525 chain. I think I want to get a 40t or 41t for the rear to give her a bit more go. thanks for the link I will have a look at the options.

525 / 16 / 39 is all bog standard TRX.

Try B and C Express for different sprocket sizes for the TRX.

But... if you go with a bigger 41 tooth sprocket, you may need a slightly longer chain, depending on whether the wheel is close to fully forwards at the moment.

A 15t front gives a similar effect to 2 more teeth on the back and usually works with a standard length chain.

1 down at the front is more like 3 up at the rear

39/16= 2.43 teeth

15 on the front will help saw through the swingarm better to change it at the rear that's what i'd recommend.

That calculation doesn't have any bearing on the effect of sprocket changes.

The point I was making is that (working from standard gearing of 17 39) going down one at the front (to 16 39) is virtually the same as going up 3 at the rear (17 42)

Completely agree with that - I personally wouldn't go less than 16 at the front.

And assuming you have enough links in your chain / adjustment, putting a bigger rear sprocket will shorten the wheelbase

i ran 15/39 for years . . . always rueing the unsettled highway running ( read revving a bit too much)
last year i went back to 16/39 and found out again what fun the TRiXie is.
17/39 was always a pain around town.
so, if its always short and sharp, go for 2-3 more on the rear and 16 on the front; lots of highway warrants the 17.

Thankyou all for the helpful replies, I have ordered a 16t front and a 42t rear, should be ok due to the larger tyre on my bike.

I do notice the Bike can get a bit unsettled when cornering hard, I suspect this is down to the larger rear tyre and the shorter front forks. is there a difference between the r1 forks and trx forks length?

Hi Jonny, yes R1 forks are shorter. I have 99-01 R1 forks and i think the difference was about 20-30mm shorter. You can buy extensions though that screw in the top to give you more travel. Never tried them myself as i'm quite happy with the faster turn in.
