Speedo not working again... grrrrr!

OK, so firstly speedo cable snapped, i went and replaced it. Then couple of weeks later speedo stopped working again. so took the front wheel off to find that the speedo gear/drive wasnt in the best shape. so i went off and brought one. 2 week wait. all the while riding around without a speedo. so when i went to put the new gear/drive in i found that the little prongs on the metal ring that makes the gear spin/read were snapped. so another 2week wait on a $3 part.
now i've been riding for the past 3weeks or so now with the speedo working, until this afternoon when all of a sudden it stopped working again.
anyone got any idea what could be wrong with it this time??
i believe i've look at all possible avenues

might be worth checking the wheel spacers and the engagement of the speedo drive.
Is it a trx front wheel ?

have you tried disconnecting the cable at the speedo end, lifting the front wheel off the ground and seeing if you have drive all the way up the cable.
place a tag on the cable with electrical tape so when you spin the wheel you will notice any movement
use your old cable in a drill into the speedo to see if you have a reading there

it is a standard trx front wheel
the actual speedo unit works, well it was working earlier today.
im going to pull the front wheel off yet again to see what the problem is... Trix is really starting to annoy me.

The problem most likley lies with how the cable is engaging at either the drive or speedo end. Especially now you have replaced everything!
On one of my TRXs, I found that if I fully tightened the connector at the speedo end and then connected the drive, my speedo didn't work. I also found that if I connected the speedo drive first, the inner cable would slide through the housing and not leave enough to engage at the speedo end.

Ok so went to attack it this morning.
When it happened yesterday afternoon I didn't look at it as I was a little pissed. Plus didn't really have the time.
But walk out to find the cable had come loose, and the inner cable? Was no longer with the bike.
So looks like I'm up for another cable.
Any tips on keeping the cable connected to the gear ? Thread lock?

Thanks buddy, ended up getting some low strength thread lock. I'll give that a go and hopefully I have no more speedo issues.

Turn the cable around then it can't slide out the bottom. Too easy.

Yep, the `inner` should have a swaged washer or collar on it at one edd, this goes at the top (speedo end) and when the threaded collar is undone at the speedo drive boss on the front wheel spindle the inner cannot slip through the outer cable and get lost.

On the site in this link, scroll down til you can see the line drawings then look at fig 2 (left hand line drawn image:

You can see the `shaded` collar on the inner cable.
