Hi im new the forum but have had my trx and tdm for 5 years! the thing being my trx has alwase had a bit of a ticking nose why running. dint noif enyone els had it or new what it could be? thanks mark

I had a ticking noise when my valvesettings where off, time to check them...also check the camchain while in there!

Wasn't on the TRX , but my previous bike (FZ600) had a "ticking" at low revs which I, my neighbour, and the mechanic at the shop all thought was a loose tappet.
After a lot of checking it was traced to a minute air leak at the exhaust flange.

A bit of ticking is normal, in fact desirable (assuming it's coming from the head/valve-cover area).
Correctly adjusted valve clearances will make a ticking noise when the engine is running as there will be a small gap between the cam and the cam follower (bucket). This gap ensures that the valve seats fully and seals the combustion chamber. The tick is the sound of this slack being taken up as the camshaft rotates.

If the engine is quiet there's a possibility that the valves aren't closing fully due to being held open by the cam which will reduce power and cause damage to the valve and valve seat due to blow-by gasses.

"A ticky engine is a happy engine".

If the tick becomes a clatter then you may have a problem.

yer it's funny they say women and relationships are like motorcycles... I know Janet ticks me off every now and then..I come home and find she's bought another pair of shoes.. But overall things run along smooth and fine
