Trx850 Can i Remove Standard BIG Airbox and Run Filters
Hi just after some help , is it possible to remove my airbox
and run filters off carbs , my bike is factory no mods . I have
heard some bikes have problems running without factory airbox unless
jet kitted.
Any help is much appreciated

Hi Jordy..you can clip out the induction ram tubes from inside the factory air box...then buy a set of performance sock type filters..[try dirt bikes] and then zip tie them..[after removing the plastic base]..onto the top of the removed tubes.Jordy wrote:Hi just after some help , is it possible to remove my airbox

Have done this myself...but the induction noise is not to my taste..so i refitted the induction tubes WITH the filter socks and removed the air box inlet snorkle and main OEM filter ...sounds real good in angry mode...like a guitar box yeah ?
Also..apparently,someone has mentioned here that the OEM carbs dont like windy surrounds..[no airbox]
just a thought.

The stock airbox is only good for growing herbs in, nasty piece of black plastic sheite that it is.

you can do what you like BUT standard cv carbs much prefer still air like in the airbox instead of pod filters so you may need to fiddle with carbs.

yes you can do it but expect to spend a lot of time / money getting it to run right for a small performance gain

I have been running pod filters on stock carbs and have had no problems
I just lifted the needle jet 1 notch and upped the main jet to a 150,

if its too hard, your doing it wrong.

was thinking of fitting some K&N (or equivalent) round/cone filters, just like the OP.
if the carbs aren't keen on windy surrounds, how about a custom aluminium windbreak?
you really wouldn't need much, just a curved plate covering about a 3rd of the circumference of the filter itself, or even easier, just springing from the frame to block the wind at the right point.
you could even make it a small feature, as it could potentially be quite nice-looking if you fashioned it in a pleasing shape.

Why???????????????
With a stock injun the stock airbox will gulp in much more air than needed.................as previously mentioned CV carbs like an airbox - twins tend to pulse fuel/air back into the airbox when the valves snap shut so with an airbox the mixture goes into the other carb.....................fitting sox just means you'll stink of fuel as it blows over your legs.
