Thought i'd do an oil change today. Bought some nice 10/40 synth castrol

everythin off, oil drain.. no issues

followed the hallowed instructions and saved 300ml from a 4litre can , filled up, clebned up... started the motor

Got a drip drip drip under the oil filter housing... went to nip up the bolts.. nit much.////// snap.. fookin sheared

fekkin gutted

dropped oil again, removed oil filter housing.... and the fekkin sheared nt isnt tsticking out enough to grab

what next? sump off?

Pissed off, meant to be going away next weekend

Bummer.
The oil isnt under pressure there and theres 3 or 4 other bolts, so a smear of sealant and reassembling may be ok short term.
Long term its get the broken bolt out with grips or drilling.
Must have been damn loose for it to be dripping? Was it just some spillage which found the lowest place to drip off ie the filter housing.

Try a left handed drill bit, you may get one at a specialist tool store or ebay,

Dont know if it will do the job without the sump off, but if you lay the bike over enough you should get access

You say that there isnt enough to grab onto..,if the broken stub can be accessed enough for a mig welder to be used to weld a nipple to the stub, then build to the weld in the same manner to eventually be able to then weld a nut to the whole thing or grab it with a set of vise grips...id be thinking that the bolt snapped from stress rather than reaching the end of the thread well...and so would be quite easy once youve got a grip.....

I have always been fortunate enough to have a small bit left sticking out to get grips on so many sympathies mate.

However on the couple of times that it snapped off clean like your bolt then I have always been successful using an easy-out/stud extractor.
