fitting tapered steering head bearings

Post by sykalwr4 » Thu Nov 29, 2012 1:47 pm

Ive purchased tapered bearings to go onto my converted R1 lower yoke( with trx stem). Can anyone tell me what seals are used with the bearings .Is the std lower seal used or do you get the bearings with seals fitted .
It will probably become more obvious when I remove the stock stem from the bike but Im trying to source the required parts before I remove the front end to do the fork conversion . :?

Thanks for that info con rod.I did come across your spreadsheet earlier but having the r1 seal and old style bearing on the bench next to the tapered bearings there is a smaller face for the seal to sit on in the tapered bearing .Ive now researched the r1 and trx bottom seals and found that they are the same part so I guess I shall just have to remove the old parts and see how it comes apart .
I have noted that the spreadsheet gives a smaller inside diameter on the lower head brg than the upper, so I can only summize that the bearing details are mixed up in respect to their positioning. :?
