So after 90000-100000 miles the engine is now toast, basically strange knocking sound that by the time i found somewhere to pull over turnt into sounding like spanners in the engine. not tried turning over since but thinking its going to be crank or cam chain? No loss of performance before or any warning signs no oil usage etc valves were done as per needed etc oil every 1000-2000 miles since i got it with 20000 on the clock. any suggestions?

Well past experience would say crank gone and on those miles it done ok ..... remove the oil pump cover and have a look see if cam chain is intact but you are probably looking for a new motor

Wish i could afford another engine but at the moment my best option is to pop me r1 back on the road and sort trx out when funds allow, going to check oil pump cover tommorow see if that sheds any light and see if there is anything worth salvaging in there

Drain the oil and see what comes out, may give you a clue.

Wouldnt wait too long for a good n running pump, it,d go like the wifes credit card over here where they get used more., in fact i think id use the wifes card on it, heh heh
This motor is the first ive seen for sale without a blown crank or the rest of the bike with it.
Yamaha dont make these motors anymore....
Like the new avatar Dave..!

the rules of the game are as follows :
Dont tell her you are thinking of buying X because she will rouse on you AND you dont get X .
Buy it first, THEN tell her you have bought it.
That way you get in strife BUT you still get to keep it

Scotsy's motor is a fair price IMO - I paid around that for a motor 10 years ago
