Rear Caliper Bleed Screws Size?

Post by Skybone » Mon Dec 17, 2012 11:33 am

What size are the bleed screws on the rear caliper?

Just ordered a pair of 8 x 1.25mm Autobleed screws from Wemoto to go with the braided hose I've just ordered.

I changed the pads on the rear caliper the other week, and there's absolutely no pressure in the pedal, and nothing coming through the bleed nipple(s). Plenty of fluid in the reservoir, and though weak, the caliper does work.

yep the rear is a nightmare to bleed through, easiest way to do it is to to get the calliper above the rear master cylinder

the air will be trapped where the banjo connects to the top of the master cylinder

I noticed that when I did the pads...

If one had lower standards, and a base sense of humour, one might suggest that all the best toys have 2 nipples... :D

Up to Christmas, I'd been able to get out into the garage a couple of times to have a look at the back brake, each time without success. The lever was still soft, and there was no fluid coming from the bleed nipples. Ordered those bleed nipples, covers & a braided steel hose from Wemoto, which all arrived before Christmas... just had to get some time to get them fitted.

Managed to get some garage time yesterday, so I took the old rubber hose off & fitted the braided steel one, took the old bleed nipples out & fitted the new ones, played with the hose routing (took off the steel "loop" just before the master cylinder & routed the hose to the wheel side of the torque arm with a cable tie). While the bleed nipples were off, I gave the caliper a good clean with spray brake cleaner, put everything back together, topped up the reservoir, flicked the hose to get rid of any air bubbles, pumped the lever, then started to bleed the caliper, expecting a long job... 10 minutes later, brakes bled & sorted! Result! :D
