Hi I have got my mates Trx up on the bench and notice that the chain is touching the Yzf swinger ......
This cant be normal are there custom spacers required to make this mod work ? and surely the rear wheel spindle is too small here

The yzf wheel and swinger I think has a bigger diameter spindle.
So a yzf swinger with trx wheel needs a yzf spindle and then new bearings to suit in the wheel and sprocket carrier.
I could be wrong....?

You can make pretty much any combination of stuff work as long as you've got the parts to fit the stuff together. That's just been badly thrown together though. It looks like the person who did it was too cheap to buy a YZF wheel and caliper hanger.

The YZF750/Thunderace spindle and bearings are 28mm internal diameter, TRX are 20mm. It looks like you have a TRX spindle- is the wheel from a TRX as well? It'll be 5x17" and there shouldn't be any play between the spindle and wheel bearings if it is. Please don't ride that bike until it's made safe though, and I bet the reason the chain is rubbing is because the wheel is too far over to the right- is the chain run straight?

That's SCARY - kinda makes you wonder about the countries which don't allow modifications/bodgeups!!!

Okay, I'm not being serious but imagine the consequences of that lot going tits up - and the oncoming rider/driver!

Ok .... Ive done some remedial work and now we have the standard set up fitted , you were right Kayla nearly 6mm out of line as well as everything else ...... nicked out of another Trx so if anyones got a swing arm , spindle , etc I need one

Oh and I opted for the harris rearsets too

Do you have a YZF swing arm as well as the rear wheel?, If you use the TRX swing arm with the YZF wheel, you need to make some spacers up with the internal diameter for the TRX spindle, and the external diameter of the wheel, One is a top hat spacer, and the other 2 are normal if my memory works. Then get a dished rear sprocket and fit it so that the teeth are inner most, this will get the chain run nearly straight.

What we had in there was a Yzf swinger fitted with a trx wheel , homemade spacers and an unknown spindle . This can be made to work I think with the proper spacers bit Id rather use a dished front sprocket to get the chainline right as without that the chain rubs on the swing arm brace

As an owner of a yzf set up , Zednine.. i cant see the upper reinforcement to the swing arm as it should be ..doubt it has been cut off either..for the interest, we simply turn the rear sprocket over so the dished tooth section is to the inside of the wheel and it lines up nicely with the standard TRX front.
Looks like the trx rear swing there has been dremmelled out to accept a larger axle..to fit a 5.5inch yzf or maybe an R1 wheel and then finding its all too much...a home engineer.[." oh bugger, ill just put it back together and tighten it nice and tight."]..

The swinging arm I took out was the Yzf one you can see the reinforcement in pic 1 , not a trx one , fitted with a trx wheel , you are probably right that with the dished rear sprocket ( presumably off a yzf as my trx sprocke is flat ) is reversed all would be ok but when the guy did this one it was well out of line

Id like to use the Yzf swinger with a trx wheel ( to keep the 160 tyre ) so may try and make it work this weekend

Hi, I had a bit of a look at this before, from memory I think the best way is to machine out the trx hub to accept the yzf bearing size, you could use different bearings with inside diameter to suit the yzf spindle and outside diameter of ?, But probably best to stick to the yzf bearings as it keeps things simple, the trx and yzf hub look very very similar but the trx has a bit more meat in the hub, so plenty there to machine out, nice easy job for an experienced person with a lathe, bit I would guess it would have to be a pretty big one to hold a wheel,
The other way might be to use a slim line bearing if one is made, I think con rod works with bearings if I remember right, but it could be someone else on the forum,
I have a spare swing arm from a trx if you are interested, will take some pics for you if you want as its not in mint condition but is ok, I also have a trx and yzf rim so I could take some measurements if you need them.

Forunately my day job is manager of a bearing distributors unfortunately the size we need isnt made

Yzf rear wheel bearing is 60/28 2rs 28mm x 52mm x12mm

Trx size is 62042rs 20mm x 47mm x14mm

Machining out the wheel sounds feasible but like you say would need a lathe with a big swing , Is there any reason why we cant put the trx wheel and spindle in the yzf arm with suitable spacers ?

The set up that was in before wasnt that far off being ok as when the axle plates with 20mm bore were used and 20mm bore spacers it all bolted up fairly secure ...... maybe spacers which stepped up and took up the 20mm - 28mm difference in the swinger would be ok ?

Questions are

Is the Trx spindle long enough ?

How do we get chain in line as wheel is physically narrower ?

What caliper bracket is best to use ?

Lets face it it could be done but is it worth the hassle .... be easier just to use full yzf or thunderace rear end or stick with standard trx

amen brother..!

I'm sure the YZF spindle was a bit longer! as for the dished sprocket, that was the original sprocket that came with the bike, after market are flat.
