Whats the story with TRX crankshafts? I have read loads of posts about bearing problems and replacement engines needed......Can you not rebuild the crank? I have seen a rebuild service offered on ebay. Now i know from my NSR250 days that what people offer and what they can actually deliver tends to be miles apart, so just wondered why no-one is rebuilding cranks?

Often thought the same Cyclone, plenty about in the need.

Well I looked into this and its approx £280 to recon a crank + a gasket set £70 ish so £350 plus any other bits ....... cam chain £70 ....... rings another £100

I ended up buying a complete Trx non runner ( risky but I got lucky ) for £ 500 ,

Thing is that if you keep an eye on the oil they run to huge mileages so the answer is .......... Check the oil

^^^ wot he said. I rebuilt one years ago and it cost an effing fortune.

Most crank rebuilds require you to send just the crank - and if you have the mechanical knowledge to split the cases etc you may as well do it yourself.

You also have to factor in the cost of at least 2 oil changes and it simply works out cheaper to buy a running bike, swap the engine and break the rest.

Ah i see, it's a cost thing. Suppose I'm used to the NSR's with a top end rebuild at £350 and crank at £800-£1000 and the chance of picking up a runner with a good engine non existent, the TRX seems positively cheap.

Think I'll stick to checking the oil on a regular basis though
