Finding out master cylinder size from the outside

Dudes, just wondering if there's a way to tell the master cylinder size without taking the brakes apart. The past owner put bluespots on but I have no idea if they finished the job with a 14mm MC. Just saw one on ebay so decision time is now! I assume mine is either 14 or the standard 5/8th (15.8mm).

if its a 14mm...itll have the 14 on the outside of the master housing.
You will have to take the master off to see the numbers...they are on the opposite side to the nissin badge.

good luck getting either of them to bleed after too...did my 14mm change over last night,..a blighter to bleed.

Ah! I hadnt looked at the back. I am just able to see a 14 in a circle without taking the master off! Thats what I wanted to avoid, Horrible solo bleeding... Thanks Alex, just saved me 89 bucks! The softness at the start of the lever travel must be more down to worn pads and/or dirty caliper cylinder.

Why is the 14mm mc an improvement ?
In car land we usually try to put a larger mc on with larger brakes.

The pistons in blue and gold spots are smaller than the ones in the standard calipers so you need a correspondingly smaller mc to displace the correct amount of fluid otherwise the brakes can feel 'wooden'* and be too on/off. I hate blue spots with the standard mc but others prefer it. I dunno. You pays your money, you takes your choice...

* It's subjective, your mileage may vary etc...
