Fuel capacity / Economy

Just done a trip of a few hundred miles on the TRX, mostly motorway miles cruising at a steady 85 - 90mph. My question is, what is the tank capacity? and what mileage can I expect to get out of the TRX before I have to fiddle my way to the reserve switch? I bottled it at 130 miles indicated (too long riding a Firestorm) and filled back up with 12.54 Litres, and that was brimmed.
There's economical, and then there's bloody economical. I had a Blackbird before this and it was modified, I was returning only about 160 - 170 miles from a tank full on that and its tank was the size of a small African nation. Does this TRX fuel return sound feasible to you experienced guys?
Cheers
Balders

Yep, a well fettled TRX will comfortably see 50 UK miles to a golden gallon of wallet emptier.

Actual kilometres to reserve I've forgotten, but we were talking about this topic a year ago I think...I do know that from non sloshing (highway) riding..and when the motor first starves....reserve will take you at least 40 Kay's.

I got around 55mpg the other day, mostly was a 70mph straight line so best case situation but even when I rev it a lot its still pretty economical. Due to having a lot of torque you don't need to thrash it to make progress.

18 litre tank with 15L & 3 litres of reserve .. 250 to 300 km before reserve is common so 160/170 miles sound average..

Yep that`ll be about right for a stocker with no emulsion tube and needle wear cobba.

230 to reserve for miss blackie and the carbs were kitted before I bought it, and has 17/39 gears.
I get better fuel usage with my red Rex that has factorypro TI needles, emulsion tubes, a K&N filter, 2into1 and 16/39 gears.
go figure

I reckon the stock gearing is actually too high for the lower gears, the motor `hunts` some while in town so not really running as efficient as your dropped 1 tooth bike.

Miles? Aren't you chaps up with the proper scientific units yet?
As little as 190km til reserve & as much as 320km to reserve on a midnight to dawn mystery ride.
Usually hit reserve at 220km running around town.

Thanks for all the replies chaps. I think I could have safely pushed her to 140 maybe 145 without having to reach for the reserve. Which, is pretty bloody good. Considering it only costs me around £22 to fill up.

With the figures you have supplied I think you would got your 250km 145miles before reserve.. Most rides I'll get 270kms even with the FCR'S before reserve and the 250 mark with a bit more traffic..

A thread revival.
I am consistently getting about 70mpg or 3.9ltr/100km
Fuel range is comfortably over 400km / 250miles
Best tank was 3.7ltr per 100km, or 76mpg which would be a theoretical range of 486km / 300miles
Stock carbs with a 137.5 main jet, middle clip and 2.1/4 turns out. K&N air filter and after-market cans
Regular inspection of the plugs, measurement of the a/f ratio and a camera down the plugs holes shows no evidence of over lean running and no flats spots except for a little stumble at about 2000rpm on the transition from the pilot jet to the needle
Just shy of 90,000km (55,000miles)
but did the valves and rings recently
