Battery-less

G'Day Folks,
Can anyone tell me if TRXs will run without a battery? If they can I would be happy to bump start my race bike....

Could remove the starter to she'd more weight too.

You simply need to fit a large capacitor where the battery was, something to `absorb` the charge

Or an old 14 volt rechargeable drill battery (better than 12V), they are very cheep and once you've made a fitting to take them (real cheep) you can have several charged up for the race day, they dump amps quick and last around an hour. As you are only suppling power to the coil and CDI they are great! BUT if you want to ride the bike to the race......not very effective

Thanks guys...All good stuff and yeah cobba - the less weight the better. BTW, I'm gonna put everything in a box and weigh it when I'm done so I'll let you know how much weight I've removed.

Running this type of battery is for a pure track bike......
Forgot to add that if you are going to drop the battery and the starter, for a purely track/race bike then drop the alternator as well, keep the rotor but ditch the stator, field coils etc. The rotor will act as a flywheel, removing it will allow the engine to rev faster BUT the down side is the kinetic energy inherent in the crank/rotor will be less, which will effect low engine speed response.
Also by ditching the alternator you will gain 5-10 useable Hp as the engine is now not trying to generate electricity, suck power
Would be great to trial different weight rotors/flywheels to see the benefit (or lack of) this stored energy on engine responce.
