My faithful trx is about to turn over 100,000 klm So she is in for a bit of pampering Everything that moves or rotates will be removed, renewed or refurbished.
I have been trying to track down swing arm and linkage bearing and seal kits, not having much luck Is there any chance the trx uses the same kits as a '99 R6 or FJ or anything else . I have asked my yamaha dealer to quote all the bits and will get an answer in the morning, i'll make sure that i'm sitting down and heavily sedated before i make the call

Thanks schmiffee, I did see this when it was first posted, I also recorded all the sizes when I did an inspection at 50k. I have a couple of good contacts in the bearing industry, none could supply the lot, as happens with a lot of bike bearings and seals, they seem to be not quite the sizes that are readily available. Mind you, it was a couple of years ago that i tried.

I'm about to pick up my forks n rear shock from MPE. I'll quiz them when up there if you like. They did a great price for me to revalve and re spring and place gold valves for comp and rebound on the R1 forks plus resprung and revalve the Ohlins rear shock. He does a great rice also if going down the gold valve set up on the std Trx front at around $400. I'll quiz him if he does any deals if associated with a bike site..

I bought all of the bearings linsted on that sheet from Hooper Bearings.

I think I had to wait one day for a few bearings to be shipped from Melbourne to Sydney but all others were in stock

So the 6 ....shock pivot bearings do they relate to 4 for the dogbone attachment being 2 on the swingarm and 2 on the mount .. Then 1 for the bottom shock mount itself and one for the mounting to the frame???

Yes, exactly, so 2 on the swing arm and 4 in the linkage

Success CBC bearings at Burleigh 0756690000, Darren.I will let him know on Monday that the list I asked him to quote is the bearing and seal kit for yamaha trx850.What used to be odd size, is now available, including all seals being double lip.I also got prices for deep groove NTN rear wheel bearings and seals to match, and its all in stock!
I will be asking if he can supply the 3 pivot bush's as well, 1@ 17x12x30, 1@17x10x30.5, 1@17x12x92. even if the lengths aren't quite right, I'll get oversize and machine down.
The only parts I've ordered from yamaha are the swing arm pivot bolt $131.00ex japan and its bush $128 ex Sydney.
I wont quote the prices I got from CBC as I get a good discount through work. Let me know what you guy's get quoted, and, if needed, I will place the orders myself and send them on.

Hey guys. Been a while since I've been here. Just about to pull the bike out and continue my rebuild. As to this thread have we had a confirmation as to linkage bearing kits from CBC. I've got a price of bearings/bushes and seals from the US of around US$130 + ship. Just wondering if I should pull the trigger.

I payed about the same in Aussie $$ locally for quality Japanese bearings. $130 US and shipping you can just about buy 2 complete sets.( that included the extra 3 relay bearings and smaller swing arm/dog bone bearings )
Just print out the list and take it along to a bearing shop in Brisbane.
There is a revised list somewhere on the forum that has the relay arm bushes on there too.
Don't waste your money on the tapered steering head bearings, your better off with the std ball race design.
Just polish the cups and repack.
You can take the ball race to the bearing place if you choose and they may be able to match it or supply new ball bearing if needed.

Mine have done 150,000km and gone through 2 major front end right offs and are still running fine after a little TLC.
No notchyness or tight spots.
Clean in a kero bath and let them dry before re packing.
9 times out of 10 this will cure the notchy feeling.
Retension as per spec in the manual.

Tighten to the larger value to start to seat everything then losses off and retension to the lower value.

Most movement you feel in the rear if not the swing arm bearings/bush is the actual 3 bolts slopping about in the relay arm bushes.
They are like this from the factory on a new bike and I replaced them all last rebuild, bolts, bushes and bearing and the new OEM replacements where just as bad as the old originals.
Seems to be a common Yamaha trait on a lot of their bikes from that era and well documented if you look into it.
I tried matching other bolts to the bush but the only option was have an interference fit bolt made.

For those who don't know, the relay arm is what your shock is bolted to on the bottom . It is bolted to the subframe and the dogbones too.

I did take the list to a mob at Archerfield and said they couldn't find the bearings and to try another big mob at Aacaia Ridge I think it was. I started working in rAdelaide the same week and never got back to it till now. Ok. I'll do some better leg work. I can't see these being an issue really. The inner bushes are available from the ebaring guys as well?

Take the bolts along and just check the play on the bushes.
Don't be suprised though if just as loose as the std set up.
Unless doing some serious track work, it won't be an issue to generate chatter.( that is of course if your suspension is set up properly too)
