You can only really check oil level immediately after a ride. Listen for rumbles and rattles from engine. Gearboxes can whine a bit in second gear (normal) otherwise normal things like bearings. Check frame welds for cracks.
Main thing is engine bottom end probs due to lack of oil. They do mostly use a bit of oil.
And obviously make sure its a blue one cos they are the fastest.

I'd say first impression counts for a lot too ... if the owner sounds pretty knowledgeable and the bike looks well looked after you should be OK. They are pretty solid bikes.
All as Dave says (except for his blatant lie about blue being faster ...
RED is the way to go.
If you can't find a red one , buy a blue one and paint it

G'day Lee,
Welcome.
Advice as above. The TRX is a solid bike but check all the normal things.
Ask the seller how they check the oil. If they hesitate or don't know, give that one a miss.
Also ask how much oil per 100km the bike uses. Any good, caring TRX owner will know. That calculation is routine for a TRX owner. If they don't know straight away, move on.
The TRX motor is a strong one and will rarely have issues unless the oil level has been neglected, hence the importance of those questions.
Oh and don't worry about them using a little oil, completely normal.
Good luck with your search.

Hi Lee
Looking at your ID and your name,
you could paint your TRX with 'little arrows'?
The red ones are quicker.
Cheers, Andy.

Agreed, Motul 5100, possibly none better, but can get expensive if you ride the bike a lot and it drinks a bit.
When I was knocking out 700 odd Km a week I used trusted but more cost effective oils.
Just remember, as long as it is a good quality oil of the correct grade, frequency of change is the most important thing.
If you feel like some reading there is an Oil questions section in the Tech/Trouble Questions Section.

Welcome to TRX-land.
So, you've got the oil question sorted.
Next will be , in no particular order ... what tyres? , where can I get a full-length belly pan / pillion seat cover / blue-spots / FCR41's ?, should I change the gearing ? .... (the list & fun goes on)
Whereabouts are you by the way ??

As it happens ... I have a set of Akito jacket / jeans I was thinking of selling.
All in plain black leather , all in good condition (not brand new , but no scuffs that I can see) , usual body armour inserts.
Jacket is Size 44 , jeans are 36 waist.
I'm around 5'9" and weigh in at 12st-10lbs and they fit me.
I was thinking £75 + postage or sensible offer
.... interested ???
