Hello All,
This is my first post in the forum! I look forward to being a part of this great community!

I have just bought my first TRX, a 1995, Yellow with a white frame. It will need some work to get to where I want but I look forward to working on it...

I have just ridden it home and I was noticing a noise I was unfamiliar with (not the beautiful roar of 850ccs of twin eargasm) but rather something between metal contact and wind noise, it seemed to be speed relevant but not rpm or gear relevant.

I have determined that the front disc isn't clearing either the pad or caliper. It is a brembo brake setup too, I wasn't aware any of these came with brembo?

Regardless, has anyone else had a similar problem? Or is anyone in a position to advise a plan of attack?

Firstly welcome to the forum.
Brembo's are fitted to all the Japanese home market bikes. Other differences are Black engine and speed limited to 180kph. The noise you are hearing could be a warped disc. Does the lever pulse when you apply pressure? could be just a noisy chain that you're hearing though.

It could also the the speedo cable, mine rattles away like a good 'un. My Brembos don't make noise but I have had to recently rebuild them, maybe they'll all need rebuilding soon?

A side question then is how hard are they to delimit from 180kp/h.. My speedo actually goes to 300..

I am thinking I will do all new fluids in it anyways as its a used bike.. New for and engine oil and brake fluids..

Purdie, heaps have been done on this forum to the well keeping of the TRX..suggest first adding your location as we are global,..then use the SEARCH options in all of the topic rooms..
We have a workshop manual on the forum as well.
A 95 model eh?. Early....kilometres ?

Prob has a yzf750 speedo fitted as there are magnets at 0 and 180kph on japanese spec speedo's that when at these points will activate the limiter in the ECU under the seat.. Why another at 0.. So you can't just disconnect the cable to get around it..
Programmable ignition can also get around the limiter too.

Hmm well I haven't tested if it is limited.. haha will report back. I am just getting it roadworthy, ironing out a few bugs and running new fluids/oils through it for now.

Its done 69,000kms.. So its not super fresh.. Will definitely need some work...

A green stickered CDI is the easiest way to go, it's a straight swap and it has no limiters. I guess it depends how expensive they are in Oz, over here they're quite reasonable at around £25. It's not of major importance though, and with an engine with that kind of mileage the 7K RPM limit might be a good thing to keep.

It is a 10k rpm speedo.. So wouldn't be trx.. I am in Richmond. Not so far from box hill.. Just trying to find if 95s can take the same parts as 96-99 as that's what all the spares I can find are listed under

I don't think a warp as it's extremely consistent.. No pulse. The front brakes are quite squeaky. When i moved it in the garage you can hear the front disks are not being cleared, there is a content scraping noise and there are marks on the disk where it's wearing... Suggestions please!!

The Yzf 750 dash is the same shape but on the bottom where the indicator, neutral lights are, they also have 1 extra light...an oil pressure light . So it easy enough to either swap your taco into the yzf plastic frame or take the speedo out of the YZF and replace it with the trx speedo.
I've changed and rebuilt gauges on my trx a few times over the years from crashes.. and always retained my original speedo in the process. So if there's no sensors in the speedo because its been changed to a yzf one, you'll be fine . This is one way also the boys in Japan would get around the limiter.
The 95 was when first released in Japan and 96 to 99 was the Australian models release with the last of the excess 99 models being sold off and compliance plated in 2000/2001.
I sold the yzf swingarm I had on Sunday to someone on ebay who turned out to be a member from Box Hill and thought it may have been you so you have one member close by with a few more listed as Melbourne..

You will find that all parts listed in Aussie are for 96 on, and the 95 year imports, do not get a mention, however all the parts are the same as far as Im aware. certainly have had no problems getting bits for my 95 import. Just by the way, imports had white faced rev counters and also had pumper carbs but needles and jets from later models fit.
The biggest problem I had was getting insurance as the Insurance companies only list 96 onwards so did not want to know about imports. "as it isn't on my list".

Try by removing the pads first and roll the wheel. If no scrap from the caliper check the pads and if not worn, put them back in place. Then you'll eliminate the calipers and if the noise returns again, you know it's the pads on the disc . Does the front wheel spin freely to start though when you lift the front of the bike off the ground???
I either use a piece of timber across the headers and diamond jack or two long bolts in the holes on the front of the motor and use car stands.

Also if the caliper seals are shot this will stop the pistons returning,meaning the pads will rub.The noise will sound especially bad if you have sintered pads fitted.
