I'm just about to service my bike and I'm missing the small filter cover o-ring. I also can't find it anywhere with the part number on here (except USA)
Can I change the filter without replacing the small o-ring ?

The one on the filter itself? I imagine you should be able to re-use the old one, make sure you replace it next time though, they're under a bit of pressure IIRC.

The little ring that goes on the housing. Its the arrow on bottom right of this picture and goes on the metal spacer. I ordered all my stuff from wemoto and I presumed the small o-ring would have come with the large o-ring. It seems to be quite hard to buy on its own and my nearest Yamaha dealer is quiet far away. I though I could just re-use it but my Haynes manual says to replace.

Does the Haynes say to replace it every filter change? I've never replaced one yet...

Same here, I've done around 20 oil changes and I've never replaced it.

Yeah, but they say that with every single O-ring.
I replace them sometimes, not always.

Thanks, hopefully it will be fine this time. I've seen the kits but I've already purchased the filter and large seal/crush washers so didn't wan't to have to buy it all again.

I'll be doing it shortly so hopefully no problems arise

Yes it does. But then again if you followed Haynes pre ride inspection every ride you'd get to work after lunch every day.

This is very true.

Well I serviced it and all went to plan apart from not having a small crush washer and losing the keys to my shed for my locktite.

For the sake of a few dollars/pounds/euros i always prefer to replace all washers and o rings.
Both the left side drain plug and the right side long filter bolt have crush washers.
The large and small o rings are cheap enough and they get a squash, get oily/greasy and get hot, so why not replace them at each change

yep pure laziness on my part. The large o-ring I don't have handy and never think to get it, same with the crush washers. I have a stack of the smaller o-rings so no reason for me not to change them other than just laziness.

And surprise surprise I commonly get oil weeping from the filter cover

Still given that the rear wheel came off my pushbike the other day, after I had ridden to & from work, maybe a pre-ride inspection isn't such a bad idea

But you know I always change all o-rings and washers with every change. OCD old me.
No doubt it's possible to get away without changing them every time but as fung pointed out, for a few bucks peace of mind is cheap.
