Afternoon all,

Having fitted a new swingarm to the TRX, I now need to get gaps measured and wheel spacers made up. Before doing this I wanted to get the chain and sprockets aligned and then go from there. So I have now got the engine and front sprocket back in the frame.

Having not done this before, is there a way to line up the sprockets? Hopefully without spending lots on some sort of laser. I see that there are chain alignment tools but that just seems (to me anyway), to focus on the rear sprocket to chain alignment and not sprocket to sprocket. Maybe this is the same thing and I am just over thinking things.

Your help would be greatly received.

The simplest way of checking alignment and as I did to my set up Bill, is to find a meter steel ruler about a half inch wide, without the chain fitted, slide it on the top side where the chain would run while the sharp edge is firm to the rear sprocket , then look to the alignment to the front sprocket..sighting along the ruler or touching the front sprocket will give you a fair idea.

Then, there is the other method of looping a fishing line over the tooth at the front of the front and then over the rear of the rear sprocket looking to the front of the rear sprocket for the alignment.
I do my best thinking on the oval seat.!

I knew that the secrecy of what swing arm it was, would break someone Cobb!! It has been done before but not many times...its the Aprilia RSVR Mille one. I have always liked the banana type sweep of it and also the big space that it creates between rear wheel and seat unit.

I had the braced YZF750 arm before and it looked to busy for my liking. Taken some jigging about but finally taking shape.

With you Bill, was it SDN that did his ?..someone there in the UK.
Wouldn't be a great percentage of performance gain over the standard swing arm as we ALL know, but they look the ducks guts...specially the Aprillia banana type.
Creating a one off separates oneself from the off the shelf rides.
Is the swing already set up ? ,or will you have to mess with the swing pivot link as my VFR had done ?.
Often chin rubbed the thought of an R6 tail to mine, but that,d be like giving the wife's sister a WINK,..wouldn't contemplate going that far.

Cool bananas Billy this Trx will have some nice character about it.. Lookin forward to seeing the outcome

The picture you added is Peders TRX and is the one where I first saw the Aprilia swinger and thought, that's the one for me!! I have finally realised that most of the swaps and mods that I have carried out, haven't really added much value on the performance front, but its more what looks different/the nuts and what is appealing to my eye....and hopefully others. I like what you say about creating the one offs, as this project is all about being something that no one else will have. Unfortunately most that I talk to say why bother??? It was a close contest between the Aprilia arm and the SSSA from the VFR or Triumph, they too look very nice. The pivot end is now sorted and fits a treat but there has been a fair bit of tweaking at the rear wheel end too...which is on-going.

I went with the CBR600RR rear end and I am very happy with the sleek and sharp look of it on the bike, and the old school British bike paint job just adds to the charm. All will be revealed in the not too distant future...funds permitting due to this poxy money pit of a house that I have recently bought, but that's another story.
