The best thing would be to show your bike to an official expert at the TÜV and ask him what kind of documents he'd need to register your modifications.
Meanwhile I'll post it in the German Forum and will tell you as soon as I got the answer from those who did it.
edit:
Just found this in the German download database which might help you with you problem: a copy of a "Kraftfahrzeugbrief" where a R1 fork is registered: http://www.trx850.de/downloads/yzfschwi ... eidung.pdf
The relevant text passage is:
"MIT GABEL VORNE ... YAMAHA TYP YZFR1"
in line 4 and 5 after the dashed line in the left column.
Hi Holer,
OK, just bouncing this old thread back up as things have moved on a bit.
First, Holer, sorry we didn't get around to seeing you in 2007, we stacked our selves at the top of the Stelvio Pass, so we had to get the GF to hospital pretty sharpish, so ended up taking the train back north. Events kinda got the better/worst of us.
move on 18 months to yesterday....
Back to now, and to the original question, i.e. "How to get a modified UK bike through a German TUV test".
On your advice, we (eventually) enquired at the local Yamaha dealer, and he just shook his head and said "way to expensive, probably more than the bike is worth, too much trouble etc etc etc, you need a headlight, a kilometer speedo, standard exhausts blah blah blah..."
However, once I said that I had already done the light, speedo, exhausts etc, and had the TUV certifciate for the ABM lenker kit, he then said " the problem is the R1 forks, but if you know someone who has done this already and has the documentation( Kraftfahrzeugbrief) to show this, then it should be possible."
Ok, now I have your link above which is halfway there, but, and here is the big question, from the German TRX club, could you find someone who has done the R1/Thunderace wheel front end change AND who would be willing to let me have a scan of the relevant part of the Kraftfahrzeugbrief, detailing the modification. Apparently, if a Kraftfahrzeugbrief can be produced for an identical modification, then all the local TUV guy has to do is check that I have bolted the thing together correctly.
The other option is that the TRX goes back to the UK for those days when GF is in UK (rare), and then we buy her a bike in Germany.
However, if we have to go down this route, then it will cost us a lot of money, and to be honest, if we have to buy a bike in Germany, why buy a TRX of unknown condition, when we could buy a different bike. But Andrea likes the TRX and is well aware of much I have spent on it to get it in the condition it is in now.
As before, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Mike and Andrea.
