raised forks few Q /PROBS

Post by DAYS » Tue Jun 30, 2009 4:05 am

I raised my forks through my triples buy 25mm last week they were flush before.
the likes
turn in was great very stable fast and easy to hold a line a lot nicer and easyer then the stock hight loved it BUT

THE DISLIKE'S
i must have dragged the left and right foot peg 20 or more times and not just in the slow tight 45klm to 60klm bends even on a few off the 140klm + turns some with knee down some with out.

i rode it 3 weeks ago with the forks sitting flush and didnt touch down once and i was ringing its kneck in the bends going very hard

ive got a set off yzf750 dog bones comeing from the states to lift the back up hopeing this will help solve the prob

has anyone else had this prob when they raised there forks up

am thinking i mite get my mate who is a metel fabractor to make me up some rear set raiser's plate's for some more clearance

Never had the problem and i have ´03 R1 forks wich are way shorter than standard AND raised ass by 35mm, but also have rearsets....
One thing though, if your forks where flush before the front is raised from standard. IIRC the standard is 18mm thru yoke and most run them 25 or more. Something is making your ride dive?

yes true...good point... just changed the front suspension the other week(72kg&.9kg/mm)havent had a chance to go anywhere near where the front end use to go. Diving into corners before with the old std progressive springs in place..(they really suck  ) Well worth investing $200 for some decent springs and oil change...mmmmmm....Well just a little... braking a little later  But I'm sure when I get to start to mis behave once again I'll have the same problem....

Forks are good full rebulid 1 month ago by Terry Hays and back end had a service . Ive set the rider sag front and rear and its spot on. I even checked it again today when my mate came around. am very anal about my shock and fork settings. The only thing i can put it down to is a lot off the corners i did drag on where off camber corners. i find the trx does seem to sit a little low in the peg department. All my others bike ive had ive run with aftermarket rear sets. So they never hit the deck very often and when they did i was at the track pushing real hard or on my bum watching it slide away from me.

Mate,
You could try taking off the hero blobs from under the standard pegs, or maybe slightly shorter pegs.
Must admit, I've never ground out a peg, even on track with knee down, and thats with about 25mm fork top showing: you must be a hero!
Also, if you go for the yzf dogbones, you will be able to move the fork tops back a bit, say 10mm? otherwise you'll have a 'double whammy' but peg clearance will deffo be better.

Much to do with height and a correct position, i think a dwarf on a TRX with knee down will scrape some engine...
I know a really big dude who drives a KTM and do kneedown at very high angles while another don´t when at 45 degrees 8)

very very true killer. My yzf 750 and rgv250 where the easyest bikes ive ever riden to drop a knee on. but my tl you could have that thing right over and still be 3 inchs from the ground with your knee. hight and seat hight have a big impact on this. I swaped bikes with a mate on a ride up the Oxley. His vtr 1000 mine tls1000 stock pegs on both. tls no touch downs from both of us. VTR pegs touching down in most corners you had to hang right off it to try to not make it totch down.
