Ignition Barrel

Post by Scotty » Mon Jun 28, 2010 4:05 am

Hi guys,

My ignition barrel karked it on the weekend (key wont turn / ceased up)...anyone know the easiest option to fix? Should i replace with a second hand unit as it just plugs into the loom...I'm thinking it'd be tricky to pull apart and fix because of the shear bolts used to hold it together.

Cheers,
Scott.

Yep, new one, drill out the old bolts, then remove with the vice grips & get some new bolts to suit.

The catch is that the new one will be a similar age as your broken one...

Might be worth looking into to see if it can be refurbished, you'd still probably have to take it out first.

try pushing the key up before turning.

Mine has been like that for ages (even though I've got a couple of complete locksets in the garage)

FWIW, early R1 ignition barrels are the same and don't require you to cut off teh connectors and solder on new ones (as me how I know  )
