Carbs - what goes where?

Hi All,

Excuse the cross posting if any of you are on the 'other' forum - if you are you'll notice the suggestion to post here :)

Anyway, wonder if you can help me even though I'm new and a bit of an imposter :wink: . I've recently picked up a set of TRX850 carbs off ebay that I want to use on my 1964 Royal Enfield 750 Interceptor. This may seem like sacrilege to some, but the amals on the Enfield really need a good going over, and the LH ones are rare as hen's teeth. Anyway, having received the carbs, there are more hoses coming out of 2 carbs than I've got coming out of 4 on my other bike, a Bandit 1200! Has anyone got a convenient diagram / picture of the carbs showing where all the tubes go? I really only want to know which is the 'fuel in' and whether I can safely blank the rest off, or which ones need to be left open.

Not seen the standard carbs for a bit but most of the etxra plumbing is for coolant to flow round the carbs to stop 'icing'.

Fuel in should be obvious - cap the rest.

Ben,

There should be 4 connections, two thin black rubber/plastic pipes towards the bottom, one on either side, are for coolant in/out like Phuk sez. You can cap them.

Fuel in connection is to a T section type connection between the carbs. The other similar connection is an overflow/breather and should have a stubby open-ended pipe approx 100mm long with a black cylindrical valve/filter thing half way along it. Think that's it from memory, apart from throttle cables.

These carbs are fed from a vacuum type fuel tap on the TRX i.e. the carbs suck fuel out the tank when running. If fuel is left to flow freely into the carbs when the bike is standing, they can flood and let fuel into the cylinders. Dunno if your bike has such a thing as a fuel on/off tap on the tank but if so, leave it OFF, if you don't usually.

I had a Royal Enfield once. It was a .22 and I used it for shooting rabbits! :lol:

..looks like there's two 'breathers' and a vent pipe that I think went to a lug on the frame?.........

You are fitting downdraft CVs to an Enfield? Did the Enfield have downdrafts, or are You making Your own inlet manifold?

I think you mean a Lee Enfield.

Dunno how downdraft carbs are going to go on your RE :? Will they work when mounted per your Amals :?
