ignition key/switch problems ??????

having a little trouble as stated above... I can insert key in the barrell and switch the steering lock off after wiggling it a some what but then getting the key to turn to on takes loads of messing around with it before it clicks into place. Im worried one day i will be out in the middle of no where and i wont be able to get it on. my key dont look that worn and the bike has only done 17000 miles. should i try pumping some grease in the ignition barrell?? or is there a quick fix that some of you guys may know off

Hey Rich, I had the same problem...was stranded at the bottleshop worried I was about to snap my key. Turned out the trick was to keep slight pressure towards the front of the bike while turning the key...I was inadvertently applying pressure towards me while seated. I also lubed the heck out of the barrel and got a steel key cut (the alloy one being made of cheese). See if that works

That`s about it Rich, silicon spary in the lock, then firm pressure towards the front edge of the barrel, wiggle the bars a tad and she`ll be fine, they pretty much all do it!

x 3 on that one: push the key towards the front of the bike and then turn it. All the locks seem to wear out in this way.

DONT force the key as they appear to be made of cheese!

X 4 its always done it on mine! you can get some lock oil, but light oil works just as well.

Also, you can use petroleum jellly.Vaseline being what I used . works well

MY ign lock works absouloutly flawlessly...a bloody ripper....i just whistle as i am inserting the key knowing that the turn will result in a nice smoooooth click..!!and then away i go.

I just utilise a lttle graphite and hold the tongue the right way and she'll be right mate

and if all else fails, there are lock replacement kits available on the net.

I had the same problem, had 2 cut at one of those kiosk which litter shopping centres, neither worked, so I took them back to the thieving fat prick who did not want to give my money back
Anyway I got 2 cut at a locksmiths and they were spot on.
Moral of the story, don't use fat pricks in shopping mall kiosk to cut your keys.................................. use a locksmith.

Cheers Mincehead the silicon spray worked a treat Key turns like its in a new lock now.
