Has anyone heard of Sea Foam engine/carb cleaner ???

My trx has been stood for the last 18 months with old fuel in it which has slightly blocked the carbs. I have changed fuel and serviced bike and went out on it last weekend. The bike ran awful for the first 10 miles or so and then cleared. I'm gussing that any crud in the carbs may have washed its self out but probably not all of it. I have been doing a bit of research looking if there is a fuel additive that could clean the carbs and I believe I have found one. Not used it yet but will do soon. It can be used in lots of different ways. Its from the states SEA FOAM anybody heard of it. If not look it up on the net.

Nope - never heard of it.

IMO anything that is mixed with the petrol will be so diluted that it will have little effect - especially on gummed up carbs.

I use Millers VSP on my old Lancia as an octance booster and lead replacement but that is so concentrated it is almost hazardous. Stuff like Redex (and probbaly Sea Foam) is snake oil IMO.

I use Wynns Carb cleaner for cleaning my carbs (also very useful for getting bikes / cars started after a lay up). In your situation, i'd be taking the carbs apart and cleaning them properly rather than relying on a fuel additive.

Went out for a ride yesterday and was experiencing flat spots when under load just like before. So I went home and added some of this sea foam engine cleaner carb cleaner it to the fuel tank to dilute with the fuel. 5 miles down the road all the problems had cleared. This product actually worked! Nobody I know has ever heard of it and thought there would be no way it would clear the carbs but it did. I'm really happy with my trx now especially th e mid range power and grunt it has. I just wish it wasn't winter... Roll on summer

Mate,
I've never used it myself, but I know some guys on the Yamaha IT/YZ motocross forum have used it and recommend it and say its a good product.
Looks like they are right.
Lets hope its cured the problem for good
