Yes it was, and it's bloody typical for some smart-arse to have a 180 BHP 2 litre car, a bit like the proverbial 40 year old grandmother's Morris Minor that's used daily and is still running to prove that all cars used to be better built than cars are now.

Its not so much the 180 horsepowe thats the problem it's the torque produced which achieves the horsepower and the 2l car engine will give the crankshaft a much harder time cos it producing several times the torque of a bike engine.
Car oil is fine in bike engines........for the engine that is.........but the shear caused by the gearbox teeth in bikes ('cept Beemers/Guzzis) gives car engine oil a hard time.

Theres a guy in this month's RiDE magazine with a Hornet that's done 110000 miles and aparrently only ever uses Castrol GTX Magnatec (car oil), and he claims it still fine (although how he knows that is not clear as he's never even checked the valve clearances).

Does he say why? I run my car on that stuff and it ain't any cheaper than proper bike oil

Nope he just says that he believes that it's nonsense that bikes need different oil to cars.
