I am going through a similar experience... I decided however to take the costs and renew the engine completely. No doubt I could get another bike for less or similar money, but I decided it's worth the money, as I know what the bike's state is (not many parts left to renew :)). The TRX is a special bike, not every man's (or woman's choice)!

Anyways, if You decide to break the bike, I would be interested in the shock, and maybe the engine as a donor.

You'll get much more for bodywork than that!

Seat cowl alone made £135 on ebay last week.

Dave.
It's a bit hit and miss, I paid less than £50 for my seat cowl.

Colmac ...and the cost of your replacement 2nd hand bike will be? And of course nobody sells a bike 2nd hand when doesn't need a cent spent on it, do they? Running a bike costs money, maintaining a bike costs money. If you really think buying a used 900ss and getting it fit enough for a trip to the TT and back is cheaper and more cost effective than fixing your TRX then I admire your optimism....

ok went to look at possible 'replacement' for trx, bit expensive but hold their value quite well, 19 year old honda with only 9000 miles on it, awaiting insurance quote, and good lady aint complaining toooo much, vfr something or other (probably a bit special as hasn't got a cam chain to worry about) and 100cc smaller than trx!!, should be ok for the TT as I think they've been used over there before.
will carry on looking for replacement engine..........but if this bike's ok may not bother and sell for parts

VFR750. V4 splendidness. One of the hornest sounding bikes around with an aftermarket can on it. Great ergonomics and very adept at the real world sport riding. Would be on my short list when choosing bikes. Definitely a very capable bike and I am sure you won't be disappointed with it.

Plenty of other aftermarket muffler manufacturers to choose from. Yoshimura, Staintune, Supertrapp, Two Brothers, Erion, Scorpion do but Micron don't list the VFR.

Do you mean the RC30 (VFR750R) or the standard VFR750?

If you mean the first, make bloody sure you know what you take someone with you who knows abouts bikes and about that particular model (so you don't end up with a restricted version or a huge bill waiting to happen).

am aware, bike has history and all mots from new, uk bike, not restricted, totally standard 'cept immobiliser and manual switch for electric fan, 2 owners, 9000 miles, no paintwork done as has micro bubbles on seat and fairing browned around exhaust, but that adds to authenticity and just looks like a 19 year old bike that has been cherished and used once in a while, not a glass case model (or something that has been made to look like one), first owner had for 13-14 years and current one for 5 years, emigrating and was going to take with him (had made crate), so looks genuine, but yes. take your point and an owner from rc forum has offered to check it out.

F-me. We've gone from TRX bits being too expensive to a dialogue about RC30s. IMHO if you can't afford TRX prices then don't even attempt to buy the RC... lovely as they are.

If it's a VFR750 then not so much to worry about, but it's a bland mobile compared to a good TRX.

t'weren't the cost was the principal of spending £800 whatever on a £1200 bike, will still look for more cost effective ways to fix, but will have to 'make do' with rc30 for Isle of Man, honda part of an idea to form a club of like minded individuals to share riding of a stable of around 20 bikes of their choice including classics (rc30, jota, guzzi s3, whatever they want) and modern stuff mv, whatever, and some dirt bikes/supermoto for winter riding, can also include tourers if they wish, modern bikes renewed when necessary and classics added to collection, the rc30 is the 'holy grail' along with whatever members decide on web based forum, initially sussing out opinions at TT and wherever. Stable based NW england and costs £2000 per year collected or £2500 delivered for 20 days riding, but limiting to over 40 yrs riders who would treat the bikes with respect as they would their own.
What the heck if not sufficient interest I've still got the rc30 which should hold its value pretty well.
OK flame me down!!!
