Hello there Trx forum

i am currently building a trx cafe racer and have best part completed the body work. Ive just started on the engine and want to blue print the engine and increase the power but keep costs at at reasonable level.

at present ny plan is blue print and gas flow the head as well as skimming the head to increase the compression ration.

Do you have any advise and tips on the engine work.

Lots of people ask the question!

End cans and a K&N make a useful gain especially if you get an Ignitech CDI unit, then it gets expensive FCR carbs - spunk £600 +, full exhaust system more £££s, then youre into ripping the motor apart and spending big time! Kent or V2 cams, ported head, big bore kits and high compression pistons, bigger valves.

People on this site have done the lot - spent loads and ended up at approx 100 to 105bhp - for the money it would be cheaper buying a newer / differerent bike Aprilla RSV maybe?

you can get 78 ish BHP cheaply with end cans and a K&N - probably enough for a (naked?) Cafe Racer, it will be reliable and flexible

Spend the money on improving the handling - good tyres, decent shock, rebuilt front end

Then go on a track riding course if you want to go faster

Blueprinting and cheap dont work together either.

When we were kids we were always asking our two engineering instructors how we could tune our KH / RD / GT 250s. One guy was a vintage racer, who raced Scotts. His advice was - tune yourself first and we saw him on many occasions beat guys on big Japanese 4s on his MZ250. We would piss ourselves as we watched these guys eventually scream past this old boy on an MZ. We never did take his advice however, sure we knew better than the combined brains of Japan's finest - BTW we didnt

Got the engine ripped apart. And and all the running gear is of a recent R1 that I've squeezed in so il let you know the out come.
