Very Nice!!! I like the top pic. It's a VFR Honda swingarm by the way ( incase his english isn't up to it).

Hi TRXHool,

I have a question about your modified bike. Very nice, I also like the 2007 version best.

How do you get the bike through the TUV test?

I am asking because I am about to give away my beloved TRX, to my partner who passed her bike test in Germany only yesterday. She belives that because my bike has a full R1 front fork conversion plus LSL hochlenker, that she will not be able to get it passed through the TUV test and register the bike in her name in Germany.

Now I see a lot of very modified bikes in Germany, and I cannot believe that the owners put the bikes back to stock just for a test every two years.

Can you please explain what happens, and if you think my bike would have any problems in passing the TUV please.

In Sweden we have a timeline wich are may of 1998, you CANÃƒâ€šÃ‚Â´T modify a bike after that time but mine i can alter how much i want! ......could be the same in all EU???

Don't think it can be, as I saw a very heavily modded ZZR1400 at the weekend, underseat pipes 4 of them, single sided swingarm, god alone knows from what, flat bars and chrome everywhere, fairing cut and trimmed down a lot.

Wasn't to my taste, but again the question remains ... how do they get the TUV passed through?

In the Netherlands there's NO inspection on motorcycles so far. It's in de planning within 2 to 3 years of now. I'll see then how to deal with the regulation then (like MOT). But then egain, regulations are less strict to registrated bikes then the new ones from the implimentation date of the (Dutch) MOT on motorcycles

(Don't forget the Dutch police is always on the look for loud or (to much) modified motorcycles to give them a ticket

)

In all regulations (European and national) I don't find a date in time in which a could 'read between the lines' that I can't modify a motorcycle. Although when you modify any vehicle, it's not equal anymore to it's type approval, so in theory it's not allowed on public roads.

This could become a reality by any government, but it is very narrow thinking imho. So, for instant in Germany the TÃƒÆ’Ã…â€œV (this is a test facility for the registration office KBA) will see if any mods to the vehicle are EEG approved or for the manufacturers themselves, the TÃƒÆ’Ã…â€œV will give EEG approvals. Thefore in Germany, you can buy TÃƒÆ’Ã…â€œV approved parts or non TÃƒÆ’Ã…â€œV parts.

Hi Mike!

Even in Germany it's possible to have very modified bikes on the road legally - if you have a written expert opinion ("Gutachten") for the parts you use.
Then the TÃƒÆ’Ã…â€œV will register the modification in the registration book (and will charge you some amount of money!) and all is ok.

For the LSL steering bar it should be possible to find the "Gutachten" therfor because LSL sells so called "Superbike kits" with that "Gutachten" for the TRX in Germany.

As to the R1 fork: some German TRX drivers have such a modification on their bikes, too, and got it registered - but I don't know how in detail.

But I think it should be quite similar to that how the previous owner of my TRX got the R1 calipers registered:
He told the official expert at the TÃƒÆ’Ã…â€œV that the calipers mounted were off a R1 and this is what is registered in my registration book.

The best thing would be to show your bike to an official expert at the TÃƒÆ’Ã…â€œV and ask him what kind of documents he'd need to register your modifications.

Meanwhile I'll post it in the German Forum and will tell you as soon as I got the answer from those who did it.

Just found this in the German download database which might help you with you problem: a copy of a "Kraftfahrzeugbrief" where a R1 fork is registered: http://www.trx850.de/downloads/yzfschwi ... eidung.pdf
The relevant text passage is:
"MIT GABEL VORNE ... YAMAHA TYP YZFR1"
in line 4 and 5 after the dashed line in the left column.

This bike has registered also a YZF 750 swingarm and R1 calipers front and rear (and many mods more).

Noticed you're in the Munich area, I'll be passing through there around the 5th of September, heading north to Hamburg after a two week holiday in the Dolomitien.

Not on the TRX unfortunately (although my ass will probably be grateful that I'm not on the TRX!) but on my V Strom, dark grey, with small UK flag on the front panels, if you see us, make yourself knmown please!
