Firstly, hi to everyone. I'm getting my TRX on the 29th (hopefully, everything going to plan) and am really looking forward to it after riding my boyfriend's Buell Firebolt 12.

Right, my question...

Can I fit a Fazer 600 top yoke in place of the standard TRX one as I prefer wider raised bars to clip-ons?

in answer to your question................pre 2003 Fazer has 41mm forks, but the offset may not be the same as TRX. It's not something I've heard of doing before, so maybe it doesn't fit????

Stormy- Yes, a lot like that and for the same reasons! I don't like the tippy toe feeling that clip ons give. Whenever I ride the Buell I'm always terrified of dropping it- fine on an open road but rubbish for commuting or slow traffic. Those R1 forks look ace.

I was trying to keep it Yamaha without resorting to (exensive!) aftermarket stuff. Maybe a full set of Fazer 41mm yokes might be the answer? I dunno.

I've just moved in with my boyfriend so don't have a t'internet connection at home at the minute- the stupid work server only lets me see fun stuff outside working hours and lunchtimes. Grrrr So if my replies seem a little sporadic, you know why.

LOL, got the same problem here at my work. Luckily Still haven't blocked this forum. But gmail, facebook, you tube and the list goes on. The IT guys also got clever by blocking all proxy's that might get used to "by pass" the firewall.

I don't think LSL were particularly expensive - er, at least the one pair I saw on e-bay weren't.

If you look in the members' bikes section of the forum, you will see there are a _lot_ of streetfighter type conversions and photos, most of them with info on what was used to make them. Fork conversions are very common, as you will see, but I don't think I've heard of the one you're proposing before. That may suggest something!

Most conversions are not simply a case of bolting on a replacement. If you consider the expense and hassle of having to do that when you just want a more upright seating position for comfort, the LSL top yoke seems to me like it's worth a reasonable investment. You can always swap the originals back on when you sell the bike and flog it on e-bay.

Why not go the full hog and fit a R1 front end, as that will also lower the bike a bit, especially if you have a short inside leg measurement. (Of course we'd need to see photos of the legs, just to be sure ......!!!!! )

You will need to also figure in the cost of replacement brake lines if you are doing your top yoke conversion, the stock TRX ones aren't quite long enough, but I found that re-routing the throttle cables to the right of the headstock, and fiddling with the clutch cable routing, I was able to use the standard TRX ones.


Justa thought, why not take your TRX top yoke into a Yamaha dealer and see if it matches up with the Fazer (assuming of course they have one).

I'm 5'8" so reaching the floor on most bikes isn't really a problem I just feel more in control at slower speeds on a bike with wider, higher bars. Plus the streetfighter look really appeals to me!

Using a Fazer top yoke has been discussed previously, and I gather that it doesn't fit. There are plenty of streetfighter conversions and as far as I know no-one has a conversion using Fazer components. I will suggest that is because the top yoke is no use and ther is nothing to be gained from using the Fazer forks i.e. using the whole front end. If you think about it, it's unlikely that it is going to be any better than stock TRX items, most likely it will be less appropriate.

Having said that, my ABE yoke is marked FZ6, but that may relate to early (pre-Fazer) FZ6. Of course it may just be to throw you.

There are top yokes available from LSL, and ABE. Both work well. Try Demon Tweaks, for the LSL stuff, and Streetfighter store can supply you the ABE stuff. Personally I have the ABE.





Streetfighter store will probably advise that you buy the full kit, which includes the Yoke, bars, and extended brake hoses. Plus various stuff that they insist that you need, but don't.

A cheaper solution is to buy the Yoke only, bars separately (available much cheaper), and the longer brake hoses from somewhere like HEL. Personally I needed a longer clutch cable (which you don't get in the kit anyway), which was made to order for £20 from http://www.venhill.co.uk/.

You might also have to extend the horn cable - a simple enough job.

A cheaper solution is to buy the yoke second hand - they do come up rarely.
