Taking off, like, real fast

Post by Dash » Fri Oct 17, 2008 11:03 am

Question: what is the best method to get the best acceleration on a TRX?

just yank it all the way to 9k and then shift? or change gears earlier? :dontknow:

so let`s hear it: how do you people sprint against other bikes or (ignorant) car drivers? :ride:
What`s that coming over the hill? Is it a T-ReX, is it a T-ReX?

There's no point short shifting - you want the bike in the power

Standard TRX's make power until about 8200 so that's when to change-mine makes power until about 9,400 so that's when I change up

Also, learn to do clutchless gear changes (properly) - you'll be amazed how much difference it makes in a drag race

I tend to shift up around 8000 and by the time I'm in third either the car's a speck behind me or I'm a speck to the other bike  My bike sounds nicer than theirs though :D

as phuk says i rev it until my shift light comes on at 9000 rpm but just before that i apply some pressure on the gear change don't worry it wont shift yet ,, then as i see the light i back off the throttle just momentarily and it goes in the next gear ,,, don't do this on the down shift though ,,, use the clutch :D :D

Agree with all the above: I do clutchless upshifts now without even relly thinking about it.

Also, if you're not too mechanically sympathetic, a second gear start with a fistfull of revs and some clutch slip can often be faster than a first gear start...

..plus when you stop, you can fry an egg on the clutch cover for a tasty and nutritional snack. :D

 JATO (Jet Assisted Take Off) pack strapped to the pillion seat, engage neutral and light the blue touch paper!! No need to use clutch at all!

hm, ok. so how does one make a proper clutchless gear change? I`ve heard people about it but I figured it`d wreck the gearbox 8-[
