if i was going to the trouble of making one it would not be as ugly

isn't it just a standard tank with carbon on top ?
My brother seems to think he can make anything from carbon fibre but so far has managed to "not" make me a tank, seat unit, fairing, front mudguard , belly pan or fairing.

Could he make me a carbon peak for my Tour-X ??

I wouldn't count on it, he needs to make at least one of the items I've asked him to before I offer his services to anyone else. I'm not holding my breath either, in the army, only comes home every other weekend, girlfriend just had a baby, building engine for his car etc etc.
I have a spare tank & I'm considering a go at this carbon stuff instead of just painting it. I Think you need a copy to make a mould from in order to reproduce something completely out of carbon fibre where as the tank just has a layer or 2 on it with resin on top ?

Don´t know why they moulded after the standard tank....lack of inspiration!?

According to seller the company made two of them 5-ish years back, i´ve never seen another.

I think the main reason for making an exact copy of the standard tank (if that's what it is) would be because a standard one was used as a mould ? Should imagine it would be very difficult to fabricate a one off tank from scratch. It might seem expensive but the amount of hours that must have gone in to making it would put most off doing on for themselves I'm sure.

Yeah, mate of mine is the CEO of a company wich makes carbon thingies for STCC, DTCC, F1 etc. and i know what work/cost it is.

Costly? It's just money! Come on, ask him what it'd cost to get some nice carbonf-fibre stuff, or do You know? Would be cool as hell, might be some more that'd be interested. Now that's 2000ish, if You know what I mean

He He, just like my brother! Works with carbon fibre too. Mostly motorcycle related stuff, and all I've ever got out of him was a CF tank protector for my old Guzzi LeMans and that was YEARS ago!

If I want CF I'll either go out and buy an item, or ONE day I'll learn how to do it myself

wow.. im still sceptical of carbon fibre. Ive never played with it, or tested it.. Would be interesting to see.. You dont need to bake it in an autoclave for many parts, but if you want uber strong, then obviously you do. thats the expensive part.

A mate's building drag-Busas, and makes CF-parts, like brackets, airboxes etc. He tries to convince me building a ram-air type airbox, and claims it's fairly easy. (The easiest is obviously not to do so...) He's not using an autoclave, and I must say it doesn't sound too complicated actually. Building a tank or something similar is another beer though...
