Been reading about some dudes on carpe tdm wich had some interesting experiences when the front sprocket nut has come loose... Bought a YZF swinger a while back and had to line up the chain wich meant front sprocket further out with loads of the hardest loctite.
Well, today when trying out a new position for the stand i saw that i´m not longer the proud owner of a front sprocket nut....
Man, the luck i´ve had is insane. Rode it like i stole it just a couple of weeks ago.
Time for the rear offset sprocket!!


....ain´t going to win money or get laid for a long long time now....

That's one reason why I then wanted to buy a coerce sprocket cover off youngy (but some of his country fellows was "faster" then me) - there you can have a look at your sprocket nut without fiddling ...

Not only do i have an "open" cover (german made), i was the one ended up with youngy´s coerce also...sorry...

...surely I've got this wrong but ............... you glued on your front sprocket !!??!!

My front sprocket nut off the Suzuki RM is not only screwed on but also glued in place!!

I should have added that it was loctite´s strongest threadlock....for safety....nut of cource tourqued down.

No, he glued the nut of the front sprocket.

The front end is almost in place so i'm about to start with the swing soon...

..as far as I know, if you get a sprocket that is dished/recessed on one side (afam do them, or the standard yamaha one) and put it on dished/recessed side inwards, the 3-4 mm moving over of the rear sprocket you achieve means the chain lines up with the front one ok. The chain should also miss the tyre ok too.

Other alternative is to shave some metal off the sprocket carrier or the wheel itself, but its a lot of ball-ache to do and is then irreversible.

You need to consided gearing, as the YZF wheel with 180 tyre is a bigger diameter that the TRX one with a 160. Afam do various sprockets that fit, some from the TDM.

Search: its all been covered before.

Are you missing the lock washer?

Unfortunately due to Sprocket being loose, as the nut had come undone, the washer wasnt in good shape, but was hammered and dealt with and was useable, was the day before I was riding out and a Sunday! Sprocket cover is being dealt with at the moment!!

I tried AFAM actually AND many others. Ended up with a custom order.
Most annoying thing is the German that sold it and STILL wont admit it´s not a bolt on...

KW, was it a post of mine over on carpe?
i've had it a couple of times now

i now fit a new locking washer and new yzf (upgraded) nut every time i retorque it
i also use locktite 638 on the output shaft splines, in between the sprocket/washer/nut surfaces and on the thread

it costs me an extra tenner each time i do it but i still dont fancy ANOTHER engine rebuild at £500+ when the thread gets trashed again

but....this is a problem that supposedly only affects 3LD(XTZ750)/3VD(TDMmk1) engines
its not a common thing on 4TX/4UN (mk2 TDM and TRX) as they use a different part

i have never had a problem with this bit ,, every time i check its allways as tight as i left it , ( lucky ???)
