So, I bought a new fairing off ebay and it arrived today. Seller said it was carbon fibre. I can't tell if it is, although its strong and light so maybe.

But the style is not like one I've seen before. Its got deeper sides, turns in at the edges, has two side vents, and sits slightly more forward with a bigger front area. I like the style!

Heres a load of pics, comparing it to a standard fairing ond also on my bike.

Questions are, guys and gals: has anyone seen one like this before and who made it??

It`s likely continental,I saw it was different to a `stocker` when it was on Ebay,no idea whose it might be though.
If it really is CF a quick scrape with a fine craft knife through the black,yellow and red paint will enable you to see the weave.

its hard to tel from the photos but it looks like about 6oz glass cloth and it may well have been laid up with epoxy,, sand a bit back on the inside you will soon know if its carbon fiber ,, but carbon shmarbon , if its been done with epoxy it will be strong,, as to its origin i have not seen that before but if its creator was into moulding it could well be a one off ,, like the alloy frame thing

Looks like GFK and the fairing is really alike the diopa one with the inwards edges.....

I think I like it ? Need to see it for real to be sure. Looks better than my repro one used to. Covered too much of the engine so I trimmed it to look like standard.
Like the edges where they fold in. Bit like an FJ1200 where the fuel switch is. Still looks like a TRX with it fitted which is a good thing. Looks like a bit of thought went in to making it with some of the lines complimenting the frame rails.

I like it alot. Want to make a mould of it?

Looks very similar to the one i gave to Scotty a couple of years ago for his track days. No idea of the brand but it was fibreglass with the same internal weave that you've shown in your photos.

Seems that Killer's right and that yours is a Diopa - as far as anyone can tell from the pictures on the Diopa homepage:





As to the material:

Diopa uses two different materials: the fairing in the first picture is GFK, the one in the second picture is a mix of GFK and CF (as far as I understand from the note "GFK/KF" while the German "KF" stands for "Kohlefaser" which means carbon fiber (CF) ).

Anyway for this price you paid a good deal methinks

Thanks for that, it does look very similar to the Diopa, with the forward air vent under the light and bigger side panels etc although mine is still different around the pieces by the mirrors and some other bits.

I've had a scratch at the paint on it in a hidden area and I can't see a 'weave' showing through on the outside. Also there is a small area chipped off and looking at this makes me think it is all (or mostly?) fibreglass, although it does look like it is impregnated red right through, under the black paint.

It does seem to be very rigid and strong but is still quite thin and light. This might just be because of the 'returns' round the inside edges giving extra rigidity.

I'm gonna give it a good clean at the weekend and fit it porperly, then take some more pics in some decent light, and decide for definite if I like it or not!!

Nah, it's to bold'ish, do like the more edgy original fairing, but the carbon material

I think that flat bottom edge looks better than the original which to my eye always looked a bit "saggy".
