Hi All
I'm suffering the sorry state of a deceased rear shock. That's official, as in it's beyond service.
How do I get back on the road for an affordable amount? Second hand YZF750 unit reworked?
Help!! Been spending all my effort on rebuilding the engine and now it's not the big problem. If it's expensive I don't think the boss will wear it, you guessed - I wear the trousers but the wife tells me when and what colour etc...Ta V much

Why a 2nd hand yzf item? Why not a 2nd hand TRX item?

Why is is dead? Surely something can be done to refurb it?

New 'cheap' options are Hagon then Nitron and maybe Hyperpro.

if I knew the exact details of the shock rebuild I'd have a go at it myself.
The fella from Revs I assume knows his stuff and says the seals are typical odd sizes that Yamaha used to use but are obsolete and can't be found now.

The only reason to use a YZF750 unit is more choice for sourcing spare parts and maybe better quality in that it was an Ohlins unit for the later models. Maybe these can be rebuilt for later times too?

Reluctant to get a 2nd hand TRX unit as they're getting on know and probably in near the same state as my old unit, ie doubling as a Scottoiler unit but all over the swingarm and tyre.

Thanks for the advice so far, but buying new means no bike this summer! Perhaps I'll go for a hard tail - big piece of 4b2 should do it

You could have your re-built for around £80 ? There is a company who advertise on ebay or a few threads on here with names of a few more.

Hmm.....
The bloke at Revs is going to post the shock back to me, albeit dismantled.
The least I could do is send it/chat with another specialist for a 2nd opinion.
Have a feeling this is an old shock and all I'll get is a post mortem.
Is there an answer to the YZF750 option?

I have a rear shock unit taken from a 96 TRX " used " condition, pm me if you're interested and with send you some photos

I stand to be corrected by YZF owners (Tarwe?), but I don't believe Ohlins had anything to do with the YZF suspension, other perhaps than advising on spring rates. The name got stuck on them IIRC because Yamaha had acquired some sort of an interest in Ohlins (or decided to use them for the WSB series? I believe the former). I'd go for a rebuild, or a basic Nitron if it were me.
