Hi Everyone. Time to change chain and sprockets but has anyone got the fat on how to get the drive sprocket nut off with out damaging anything?

Proper fitting socket and a BIG piece of pipe.

They can be a bitch to get off. I had my bike parked with front wheel up against a wall, a mate sitting on it and with back brake on and in gear and me with a scaffold pole about 4 ft long on the wrench and eventually it 'cracked' and started to turn...!

Hi Trixynut one more thing the thread on that nut is it screwed off counter clockwise ?

The nut undoes anti-clockwise.

yes as above i use an air impact wrench

If you haven't got an impact gun, don't bugger about popping the brake seals - put a scaffold bar in the wheel spokes and on the swingarm - a piece of cloth or rubber mat avoids damage

put the bike in gear, with a mate sitting on it holding the front brake, get a sliding-T or "breaker bar" socket wrench.. Bingo. Its how i did mine, and it was a bastard. Goodluck.

It was a bastard because you're trying to wind up the transmission and suspension doing it that way!

As per my previous post - Jamb the rear wheel spokes (in gear) and it's easy.................................

Thanks guys for the help i finally got that nut off with my mates big rattle gun and in gear and up to the wall with the brake on sure am glad to get on the road again. The TRX is so nice to look at but more so to ride.

What size is the front sprocket nut?

Get your spannermonkey to do it...I got mine done during a tyre swap...I get paid x per hour so I don't have to do y per hour in my free time

Sprocket nut is 32mm.

Phew!! I thought I was in trouble! just tried to get the front sprocket off mine...no joy as yet and one very bent hammer shaft! but glad to hear they are a bitch to get off as mine sure is. wheel jammed with said hammer shaft across swingarm and a 3ft torque wrench,....no joy but didnt really want to give it some beans in fear of damaging something.....
Will try again with a fatter hammershaft

anyone ever broke/sheared the output shaft?

While we're on the topic I've always wondered about this.... When tightening or loosening the front sprocket nut you're all saying it's OK to have the bike in gear and also use the chain to stop the front output shaft rotating. Won't you stretch the chain or damage the gearbox if you do it this way!?!

Chains only stretch through wear and the gear box will handle way more torque than a human can apply with hand tools.
