hey guys,

im going to upgrade both sprockets and chain.
i know its 17 teeth standard for front and 37 teeth for rear sprocket.
ive heard on the rumour wheel, that lower the frount teeth the higher touque and faster take off but lower higher end speed.

also if i add more front teeth you get faster top end speed.

at this stage im thinking of going 17 front and 41 back. which will give me more torque and power on take off.


and suggestions or experiences of doing this.

ive got a price for parts and install from guy in adelaide, and it wont cost me anymore or any less if i go from the standard, higher torque and more top end speed.

theres a gear chart (commander) in here check out what you'd pefer... as such.. I can tell you with a 16/40 gearing at 100k's 4,000rpm and at 8,000 -200 k's... 9,000rpm - 225kph and round the 230mark when I'm backin off now. but it's still pulllin

I think the most popular combination is 17 front, 42 rear for slightly better acceleration. Top speed is still enought to get you in to trouble with this setting. 16 front, 39 rear is near as damn it the same difference as 17/42.

I've tried quite a few sprocket combinations and have settled on 16/41. As I don't really care for top end speed for street riding, for me that set up gives better acceleration and drive out of corners without getting too revvy. Still way enough top end to lose your licence easily enough. I have also tried up to 16/43, fun for a bit of short lived silliness before going back to a more sensible ratio.

I'm currently running 17/41 and find it to be quite good. It sits at 3500rpm cruising at 100kmh/60mph in 5th gear, so I'm thinking of going up a couple on the the rear so that it sits at 4000rpm which is where my motor tends to smooth out. It'll also help with wheelies

17/41 here. Tried 43t, and its fairly,,, wheel happy. I find 41 is a good setting for me personally. Its all personal, find what suits you best.

16/41 , have tried a couple of combos, for mountain twisties, it works a treat

Standard 17/39 here, but a 16t front sprocket on the shelf for track use only (for now).

The front sprocket is easier to change, that's the reason that I went for the front one

actually, front only. 1 tooth front = 3 teeth rear (approx rounded value)..

Thats not a bad idea actually.. ill remember that trick.. cheer
