Progress -update.

Post by masterbill » Tue Apr 20, 2010 9:11 pm

Hello,

I introduced myself a little while ago and I mention that I was putting a dynojet kit, K&n filter and Iridium plugs in my bike.

I started this some time ago and I finished off a couple of weeks ago - been out for a few small rides and I reliased that the low speed wasn't correct. Didn't have a scewdriver that could reach the screws  - so I took the carbs off and gave them 1/2 a turn to richen it up and that's done the trick

Went to the Poole meet tonight with my Son (GSX -R 750 K5) and it's the first time that I've used it in controlled anger

She went very well and the most noticable thing is that she's a lot "lighter" on the throttle. Seems a good improvement to me.

I have also put on some Yam 6 pot calipers on the front with new pads and I do like them, got a good feel to them. I have got a set of R1 blue spots as well if I want to try them out, but I've machined a flat on the six pot face and gave them a polish and they look good :D

I know that a lot of people don't like the standard brakes but I thought that they were ok - mind you I doubt if i use them to the limit.

Will give her a clean somewhen and post a picture.

Cheers

Hi masterbill, glad you're enjoying your T'Rex!

I agree with you on the brakes, I am yet to find their practical limit. We have have the standard ones over here in Aus, not sure if the Brembo imports are any better or worse.

Have you noticed much difference with the new brakes?

Ride safe.

Cheers!

I have run both and the Brembo imports are a much better caliper compared to the standard. Thats my opinion anyway(which is worth about 5 cents since they took 2 cent coins away   )
It must be true, I read it on the internet.

Hello,

The six pots seem fine to me, but in all honesty I will not be doing a large amount of real heavy braking.

I could have put an R1 set up on - but I've gone for the bling of my polished six pots

I have also put braided lines on as well ( got the back to do )

On the RD forum I know a couple of people who had R1 calipers on there bikes with braided lines but the didn't like the feel so they changed back to standard lines - has anyone found this or any views on it :?:

Using the bluespots with the standard TRX m/c tends to give some folk a wooden feel, it`s best to upgrade to an R1 m/c or better still a radial m/c to get the best out of them.

I believe some guys here have fitted an r6 m/c... Are there differences between an r1 and r6 m/c?

Masterbill, glad to see you're enjoying the rex and treating it to some quality upgrades!

Happy riding!

Hello,
Are there differences between an r1 and r6 m/c?
No - you need a 14mm Master cyl to make bluespots work.

I found this out when i put bluespots on my 500, with the std 5/8 M/c i couldn't get any pressure- changed to 14mm and it was fine.

He`s referring to likely a radial m/c and even more likely a Brembo one at that( 19mm piston/bore and 20 mm ratio):

Or nothin if you round down! J/K, that's good to know, I like the look of the Brembos much more than either the bluespots or the originals.

I always round up Mick, that way when they get rid of silver coin my opinion will be worth a whole dollar! :P

While we are talking brake changes/upgrades, I have changed from standard front brake set-up ( with newish EBC pads ) to R1 blue spot calipers ( also EBC pads ) and master cylinder with Hel braided lines...what a revelation!!! The brakes have gone from good to f...n brilliant. At the same time, I also put in Racetech fork springs and changed from a 120/60 pilot power to a 120/70 pilot power front tyre. These front end changes have transformed my TRX into a very sweet handling bike, especially on the bumpy/crap central coast NSW roads that I mostly travel on...THANKS to all those who have contributed to the tech section that helped me to get these mods done.
