I'm considering moving the battery to where the airbox was as I'll be running Ramair filters when I finally get round to nailing the TRX back together. Has anyone tried this? And has anyone got a spare Ramair sock filter for sale?

I think overheating of the battery `might` be an issue Kayla.Remember they can get slightly warm as they are being charged too, although saying that Ducati mount their batteries to the side of their engine behind the fairing so you might be ok.

If it was in a suitable cradle/box with some heat shield material around it, it should be ok.

Also, you could look at using a physically smaller battery too.

Alternatively, you gould leave the battery at home and get some really really long extension leads....

The latest Dynavolt gel types may be a good idea if you`re thinking of going down the smaller battery route Kayla, and as has been said some isulation would be useful too.

Yep, those LiFePO4 batteries were what I was thinking of, with a nice carbon battery box to put it in

Am I right in assuming that you`re going to be trying your hand at carbon fibre laying-up Kayla?
Seeing as you`ve mentioned exhaust hangers and now a custom battery box.

Why do you want to move it?

It will be sitting higher if you put it where the airbox was. Your aim should be to move weight lower, not higher?

... and Raceparts do heatshield material specifically for wrapping batteries.

Well, my thinking is that if I'm removing the airbox (which is quite a weight) there's a space there above the engine that is 'wasted' and putting ~2kg (LiFePO battery) above a 70kg lump (rather than 4kg below a 60kg lump ) won't make a huge difference. Just thinking out loud I suppose, and wanting to know if or how people had done it.

Yes I agree Kayla, centralising mass and all that techy stuff.
