thinking of buying tyres online, and the recommended front size is 120 / 60 zr 17 what would the affect be of fitting a 120 / 70 zr 17 and more importantly is it safe !!!

120 / 60 is not the recommended fitment - it was fitted as OE due to the fashion of low profile tyres (not just on the TRX) at the time in Japan

120 / 70 is teh way to go.

As for buying online, make sure you factor in the cost of fitting tyres to loose wheels or paying a tyre guy. Very often, a quick haggle with tyre places make it cheaper to ride in and ride out.

When I bought my TRX in June 2008, it had done only 1500 miles - having sat in a shed for ten years being polished but not ridden! With new battery, fresh oil & iridium plugs, I went on a jaunt to Magny Cours with the excellent PEMC (*) bike club. That is when I discovered the folly of riding on eleven year-old rubber! When I got home, I had fitted some some Pirelli Diablo Stradas which were fine, if less sticky than I'd hoped. Still they lasted well; the rear lasted for 10,000 miles, and I have just replaced it with a slightly sticker Pirelli Diablo Sport. The front appears almost as good as new - amazing!

I had the Stradas fitted at a tyre shop; and the new rear Sport was fitted at a bike shop (Websters in Stoke-on-Trent) after the TRX failed its MoT on a balding back tyre and worn front wheel bearings. Even though I do most of my shopping online, I wouldn't ever mess about buying tyres on the internet.
