Any of you out there know how much wear I should expect from a cam chain at 30,000 + miles. Am I looking at the numbet of ratchet grooves the cam chain tensioner has been pushed out? What is a reasonable amount - Haynes is not clear on the issue.

While waiting for some shims and with top end strippped I am wondering whether to put a new cam chain in?

Does any one have a recommendation on camchain to use / supplier?

Buy D.I.D or a similar quality, never trust cheaper alternatives.

You could compare the crankshaft stator mark to the camshaft sprocket marks. If the stator mark coincides with the exhaust sprocket marks aligning with the gasket face then you dont have stretch. Even if the marks were ever so slightly misaligned, I wouldnt get too excited about changing the chain, the power improvement would probably not be noticable. The inlet camshaft sprocket markings on some TRX's tend show being retarded (lagging behind the exhaust markings). Dont worry about that, it seems to be the way they are made and a new chain will not fix it.... Cheers
