Hi

Got a bit of warning this morning when I reached my Rex to go to work... First of all the rain cover was gone (bike parked on street unfortunately), was the cheapest from Argos so no big deal but still ! Took off the disc lock, jumped on the bike, key in the ignition and noticed the barrel wasn't quite centered and struggled to unlock it from stearing lock which is when I thought "who's the fecker who gave a shot at my bike!?". Nevertheless, it started and drove to work but noticed a hard point in the stearing when turning right so bike will off to my mecahnics for a check up.

All in all, I end up with:

1. No rain cover
2. A messed up ignition barrel with no stearing lock
3. A hard point when stearing the bike to the right
4. A bad start of the day and a very good fright of loosing my Rex...

A couple of questions comes to mind...

Is it worth reporting the incident?
Is it worth insuring the Rex for theft?
Is it worth fitting an alarm or other anti theft stuff? Any tips?
Are the above issue hadr/costly to fix?

Anyhow, things could've been so much worse and I am so glad I still have my bike!!!

You were lucky . I would get a big chain and padlock the bike to something solid ( lamp post )+ disc lock . That will stop amateur thieves. You wont stop someone who really wants it. Insurance depends on what your bike is worth , bike age , your age and location.
Look at somewhere else off the street to store the bike , a friend's place nearby or pay someone to let you leave the bike there.

A new lock set is not that expensive if you want to replace them. I would investigate the 'stiff spot' on the steering asap though.

I'd suggest your insurance premium/no claims bonus will be affected more than the cost of the repair, so probably not worth it. You probably have an excess on the policy, but you say its not insured for theft anyway...?

Alarms are ok if there is someone around to hear it.

Best deterrant is a VISIBLE chain thats good quality. Disc lock are fine, but sometimes the theaving scrotes only notice them after they have done in the steering lock and barrel and try to wheel it away.

These are quite cool. My friend has this. Visible and you won't pull away forgetting the disk lock

Insurance is third party only, I have a low mileage 98/S reg in good nick but not sure if it's worth upgrading...

Tempted to report the event to the cops but think I'll end up spending hours waiting around at the station for not much in the end.

I've found it's cheaper to insure a bike third party, fire & theft if that's any help. The stiff spot might be the ignition barrel fouling on the headstock- if the f-cker tried to snap the ignition lock then the bits that the barrel bolt into on the bottom of the yoke might be bent. It might be as simple as replacing the top yoke (a Thundercat and FZR600R 4JH are the same part)

Drix ... I found that fully comp was cheaper than third party when I renewed this year

Ring up and report it, they'll give you a log number which you should keep hold of - then you don't have to hang around - and they have a record of it in case someone tries to nick it again.

LOL, sounds like South Africa. The only reason why we report something like that is to get a case number for insurance perposes. LOL

I use a disc lock with an alarm built in. Has a tilt sensor in it goes off if you move, bump etc. good deterrent, and i figure if i'm nearby I'll hear someone play around with it.

Yer the tilt sensor sounds like a good idea with a recording of dirty harry saying was it 5 shots or 6 so are you feeling lucky .. Well do you PUNK

Came home at 07:30 this morning after a night shift and noticed my rear paddock stand was at 30 degrees to the ground, the Motrax bike cover had been cut at the eyelets and some low life had obviously thought of nicking my baby.
What the ferkwit didn`t bank on was the fact that I`ve got a 5/8" bowden cable through it`s front wheel round a fork leg and also through the front wheel of my Skorpion too.
PLUS I`ve not got any suspension linkage on her the now so even if they had been able to break the cable and lock they would have really struggled to wheel her away.
They have done something I`m ferked off about though, because they tried to get the rear paddock stand out they`ve allowed the weight of the bike to push both my stubby carbon cans into the top of the paddock stand cracking the carbon sleeves!
I keep a 32" wrecking bar just inside my front door for unwelcome visitors and swear here and now if any ferker messes with my bikes again and I`m in and hear them, it`ll become a head ornament for them.

Personal attack alarm with the door security attachment, when the plates are pressed together they are silent, but if they are allowed to open the alarm goes off! can be hidden with just the plate under the tyre or paddock stand.
