hey guys,

Long time since my last post due to being overseas here there and everywhere-comes with being in the army.

Here's my problem, ive got a knocking sound coming from inside the engine,doesnt make the noise at idle,only when the revs are between 3000 and 5000 rpm.

Got it into local bike shop who had to reassemble, they replaced the timing chain as that was badly worn, compressioon check was fine,they opened the sump to see if any metal filings or something to see if it was damage to bottom end.

We cant seem to work out where this noise may be coming from,to difficult to place it,sounds like something hitting the casing or something,god knows.

Does anyone have any clue what this might be or has come across it before.if so, any recommendations for what we should check or am i gonna have to do an enginee rebuild,i do hope not as rather cash strapped at the mo!

Noisy clutch basket? Mine rattles a lot at idle... I'd say big end bearing, but if they've checked that already...

How many k's on the bike?

its done 40,000 miles. Not sure if they have checked big end of bearing,will ask 2moz.

big end - if you haven't ridden far the crank may be OK?

Thread hijack....
Mine sounds pretty normal at idle no gear...like a tractor. But sound from clutch increases when the lever is pulled in...any ideas on that?

In my opinion, likely to come from the timing chain if the chain tensioner hanging remain (is this a correct (english) term?)

the timing chain was replaced as that was badly worn,chain tensioners were fine.old chain was an inch longer than new one!

When you say big end,what hould i be looking at and what will look wrong,not much of an engine expert!

what happens over 5k? have you revved it harder. is it load dependent ie worse under load
deeper heavier lessening with a trailing throttle,if its like that its the big ends if its more of a course rumbling noise its the mains. if only we had an oil pressure light.

Many of us have bought the oilpressure kit made up by those crafty Germans...

No idea on that one, mine's the opposite... Noisy when the lever is out, quiet when the clutch is in... I wonder if your bike is broken or mine?

I'm already on my second!

dont really want to get another engine because i wont know what that has done,also it isnt easy to find another engine here in uk,one on ebay at the mo however that is parts only and 200 quid.

Spoke to the bike mechanics today,they said it definitely isnt big end or bottom of engine,it is something top end. I dont think they are to interested in doing it so im gonna take it away and save up to sort the negine and clean up the rest of the bike,plan is to do it up really nice,gonna spend more than its worth but that dont matter if im keeping it,such a more sensible bike than a thou on the roads these days.
