Hi all, second post, please do go easy.
have done a search but can't find what I'm looking for.
I have seen red, blue and black trx's on this site. Then some have black trelis and others grey. Then some with black motors and others grey. Also i think some of the rims are different colours too. Is there some sort of guide to see what are standard colours on models years? Like, is red 1996, blue 1997?
Just trying to get a better understanding of the trx model run.
thanks

The following is all from memory so if other members could chip in?
The TRX came in the follwoing standard colours:
White
Red
Blue
Green
Black
Black / red
Standard frames came in:
Black
Silver
Red
Engines came in
Silver
Black (Japan only)
Wheels came in
Silver
White
Gold
Other than white only being available in Japan and the red / black option coming in later (1998) there are no obvious differences
the other visual clue for japan only bikes is a white tacho face

Mate welcome!
You get two varieties in Oz. Official imports and Japanese market grey imports. All Ozzie spec bikes have/had a silver motor as standard. All Japanese ones have/had a black motor. There are some differences between the two but it's minor - things like brakes, forks and exhaust. Nothing to get too worked up about but you do need to be careful for switching parts.
Colour schemes for Ozzie bikes include black on black frames (96 and 97) and black on silver (later years). You don't need to know anything else as this is the only colour worth getting. Repeat after me " I will buy black with silver frame."

If you must they did a blue, red and black and quite a nice dark green, These are all standard Ozzie colours and I think were available for any year but really I know jack so don't rely on my opinion other than the point baout black on silver being the only possible choice. Being an older bike and not a huge seller you will have to be patient if you have very specific requirements.
The only real change to the bike was that early 96 units had a valve stretch issue. This was "fixed" unofficially in later years. Other than that you are looking at personal preference for colour and service history and condition i.e a 98 model is identical to a 99. A lot of Trixies are doted on by their owners for some reason.

If you can prize one of these out of an owner you are laughing.
The Japanese grey import bikes come in a plethora of colours. Typically you spot the black motor first followed by Brembo front brakes and often red or white frames.

Pretty much all of what Rubes said is true apart from one missing (buy vital) fact ...
The
RED ones are faster

Hi wizzer!
What were your search words?
A little search for "color code" would've brought up this sticky thread
"Paint codes" during which a little
list of colors and model years was posted (yes, by me

).
Found greetings from Munich!
PS: @ phuk72:
Never saw original gold wheels (rims) on a TRiXie - are you sure about this?

No? I had a black bike (in the dim and distant past) that had gold wheels - just presumed they were standard (cos they looked shit and I can't believe anyone woudl paint them that colour!)

Thanks for the replies. Sheds a little light on the model run.
I didn't try the word "code" in my search so maybe this was my problem.
Spending many hours reading info on this site at the moment. It is great and a credit to all who manage and input on the site.

1995 Japanese imports were Ducati copies, red paintwork with a white frame and wheels (mine!) and white paintwork with a red frame, (not sure of the wheel colour but believe again white) both had the black engine. Official Euro spec came in 1996 , and were as above posts, with the silver engine.
