engine/frame numbers - should they be identical?

Hi guys, perhaps a silly question but this is one thing ive never really bothered to check on my bike...

ive just had a look at the frame and engine numbers on my TRX and found that they are different from one another ( the last 4 digits are different engine is 6*** and frame is 7***)

does this mean ive got a mismatched engine/frame from what it was sent out of the factory or am i missing something?

Thom

The first three digits are model type (4TX / 4XG, sorry cannot remember which but one of those two  ).
The rest of the digits are simply production numbers, engine and frame numbers do not automatically match, mine are different but close enough to each other not to suspect there has been a change.
Are you used to british bikes frame and engine numbers matching?
