G'day all,

I'd like to get some informed opinions on a professional paint job for the TRX.

I'm getting basically everything painted at a local spray shop, they're ‘fixing’ my dodgy work (painting, then sanding then painting again myself) pulling two dents from the tank, plastic welding the cracks in the front guard and both seat cowls then giving the lot a few coats of gloss black, with no graphics.

So they’re doing:

Tank
Front fairing
Front guard
Belly pan
LHS and RHS seat cowls and the little piece that joins them at the back.

Given a quote of $1600 AUD.

It’s a bit of work understandably, but how does that stack up against what you lot may have paid in the past?

About 1000 GBP, or 1200 EUR, or 1600 USD.

BUY a spraying kit and do it yourself for a lot less?

You could save a lot of money by doing all the prep work yourself, according to Ed & Mike from Wheeler Dealers, anyway

These cost $500 to do and was colour matched tiger mica (metallic paint)

Looking at respraying mine as well and have contacted a few places. Been quoted between 500GBP and 900GBP for the exact same work but this includes wheels as well (painted spokes/polished rims).

Shop around to have a comparison point

I have had several quotes varying from £800 (Obviously don't want the business) to £150 to £200, this was for my TDR but the amount of paintwork is about the same. In the end I had the tank done for £40 and did the rest myself and got a reasonable finish.
Looking at the quotes you all got I think my £150 to £200 was a bit of a bargin!

hi $800-$1000 would be a reasonable figure...material cost in europe is a lot cheaper than in aus

Picked up the tank and all the panels this morning from the paint shop.
Looks very good (it'd want to for 1600 big ones) and even the plastic weld repairs are very tidy. Pretty happy with it and can't wait to put the bike back together, I'll post up some pics when i can.

I've got the bike all back together and looking very pretty, but it has decided it didnt like its makeover and wont start.
I've tried as much as i can think of:
Fuel - OK
Spark - OK, The plugs are near new.
Air - OK, K&N cleaned, airbox free of obstructions and all hoses clear as well
Vacuum lines - OK, clear and connected
Battery - Only run dead from attamptin gto fire her up - tried jumpstarting.
Leads - seem OK, all connections solid

I've done a bunch of looking around on the forum and also checked things like:
Kick stand switch - Seems ok
Kill switch - Seems ok

I hadn't actually ridden it, or touched anything electrucally or mechanically after i spent over $1000 at the mechanics in December. So its got me stumped. All I did was remove the tank and panels!
