Just read on the 2Wheels forum thru a link to VisorDown that Yamaha have put out a patent for a sportsbike using the XTZ1200 motor.
Imagine that a 1200cc TRX with shaft drive (woo - hoo) no more messy chains and sprockets (I used to ride a Guzzi)
I'll try and find the link

Match that with B-arts graphics and bodywork .... Mmmmmmm
They would want to lose a stack of the 261kg from the Super Tenere though....
ABS,shaft and the suspension all look good though...

First place they'd shed weight is the shaft drive then

It had to come , and when it does , the trixies value will hit the roof . Let's hope they make a serious duke beater . I'd be happy to buy a TRX 1200 (7 sp g/box) that weighed under 170 kg and packed 150hp . I think it's important they take on the Factory Twin giants head to head

. So long as it out handles the UJM's and fancy Italians , it will sell I'm sure

I love that RSVR front and rear ended streetfightered TRX, she`s VERY pretty. The last image with the alloy framed TRX is an interesting one too.
O for a nice healthy bank account, I would build myself a very trick TRX with the help of some of my engineering buddies!

It'll never happen - and if it does we'll end up with an overweight, underpowered cop out that they will market as a sports tourer.

We've already got the TDM Phuk , but I doubt they will build a bike to threaten the sales of the R1 . Honda are rumoured to be bringing the new V4 fireblade ,called something else which will ,being Honda, probably turn the hypersport world on it's head. This might force Yamaha to try something new. Another poor mans Ducati this time won't work with all the nakeds and V2's up for grabs. The only market yet to be exploited is a true serious paralell twin performance bike. Swap those forks with Ohlins, lightweight rims , and shoe horn a 150hp 1200 motor in the same frame as the old TRX and they'd have an absolute winner . I wouldn't mind a little 600/650 either to push the trumpie 675's through the twisties. They could certainly use the old Laverda 750 as a template to get some ideas. Mind you , the old 850 is still a treat . It felt great blowing away acouple of dukes on the weekend .They were so ashamed they parked up the street when they saw that it was "only" a trixie !

We can only hope that Yamaha are listening . We want a parallel twin world beater . The only market left unexplored

They could do worse than produce a smaller capacity, and physically smaller/lighter TRX650 to take on the SVs and ER6s-
But like Phuk says, it'll never happen and if it does it'll be a neutered, watered-down cop out. It's a shame
