In October I'll be spending some time in Perth for my cousins wedding and then coming across to Sydney.

I'll be there for a week or so (open ticket) so what's a must do and must see in and around the area?

I'll leave it to the Perth and Sydney guys as my Oz knowledge is about 13 years out of date, but perhaps you could give them an idea of the kind of things you enjoy ... as in, is it just you or a family trip (young/old kids) ... beach or city stuff, etc.

Yeah, it was me asking about Perth. Have now decided to include Sydney as my best mate has just moved there.

Unfortunately I will have the kids with me but it's my holiday as well! Have already planned in some beach time (which means some diving for me ) so interested in the sites really. But all suggestions welcome

Taronga Zoo - Bradley's Head nr Neutral Bay (north side of the harbour)
Bridge Climb - thoroughly recommend (did this 2 - 3 yrs ago)
Power Boat rides on the harbour (again recommend)
Palm Beach
Ride up The Old Road (Old Pacific Highway)
Luna Park - Kirribilli
Opera House
Royal Botanic Gardens
King's Cross
Darlinghurst
Bondi ( play spot the eastern suburbs wanker or play spot the aussie on Christmas and Boxing Day when UK backpackers invade!)
Koala Park - West Pennant Hills (just up the road from me)
Eastern Creek Racetrack
Historic colonial towns like Windsor, Pitt Town, Richmond, Kurmond.
Blue Mountains - Leura, Wentworth Falls, Katoomba

I will be over there when the the PI moto GP is on - are there any good sports bars that I can watch it at?

There is a track side bar - it's only 950km down the road

Don't forget:
the round trip across the harbour to Manly on the ferry
Wisemans Ferry
the drive through the Royal National Park and Lawrence Hargreave Drive to Coal Cliff
Opera House / Domain / Art Gallery walk from Circular Quay
and lots of pubs in the Rocks that serve cold beer

take the train for an overnight to Newcastle.
One of the most scenic trips available with the train winding its way past great bridges, rivers and hills

Newcastle has a cheap airport to head off from Sydney (to Melbourne, preferably) and a good party town for overnight stays

Well, yes there is. A little place called Mackerel - You go up to Palm Beach, park your vehicle in one of the side steets, as the council parking is around $25 a day, and catch the ferry across the bay ($13 return/p/person)
you're still in Sydney but miles away from anywhere, but this place is isolated, no roads and you have to bring over everything you need(I'm serious!)
Friends of ours have a holiday house over there, and we stayed for 4 days back in January. Absolutely magical!

Yeah, plenty of sports bars, though most pubs take a live TV feed of the MotoGp, either Foxtel or OneHD

when your in perth have to try a ride out to the hills for a trx brekky ...i have a spare bike
